hi vit k ,

radiotherapy is one of the lesser known branches in our MBBS .. so many hesitate b4 taking it ..

the future prospects are good... in fact.. radiation oncologists are earning a lot these days ... a lot of it is com ing up .. like stereotactic radiotherapy for brain cancers etc.. so lot of scope.. esp abroad. ...

but there is no direct patient interaction .. it would be more of therapeutic sittings ...
no wards as such .. unless some one gets admitted for brachytherapy...

not much emergencies/night duties ... can lead a cool life all thru .. and earn well too..

but .. in my opinion.. its better u do it in a private college.. simply coz of better facilites.. or if any govt college has them [ which i am not aware of .. ] then u can go ahead... most of the govt colleges will only have a cobalt 60 unit .. not gonna help much ... this is just my opinion....

all the best

Radiotherapy is an institution dependent branch and there's no private practice. The centres are in major cities only.So be prepared to live a life accordingly. It all depends on personal views.

dear ,vitamin k (nice name )
BARC, only grant radiactive source to that institute or hospital who had qualifeid medical physicist ....
or any radiotherapist who had done further study in nuclear medicine ...
radiotherapist can also prescribe chemotherapy in private hospital ...if he want to do practice .
carreir in radiotherapy is good ...

hi vit_k sir and others,i am going for counselling at manipal,i have a decent rank .i will get md medicine but problem is i have a sudden interest to do md radiotherapy as i feel it will lead to a more relaxed life.
my parents r really interested in me doing md medicine, they say that dealing with cancer pts daily is not easy, not very rewarding speciality.
Its a speciality which we dont have exposure to in mbbs,so really dont know whether i will like it.
im really confused ,do i go ahead and take the plunge no matter what my parents say.
pls help me at the earliest.
thanx in advance.
