one frank advice... take up general surgery only if ur really prepared to slog out for 3 years.. plus another 2-3 years cos a superspecialisation is required in almost evry case.. i know of some ppl who take up g.surg cos they are 'surgically inclined'... n regret later. ENT , ophth, obgy are also surgical branches n much less gruelling than g.surg... so figure out if ur like surgery... or u indeed like general surgery

and for jnarot... g.surg as a postgraduation is 3yr+3yr of maybe MCh + lifetime of a taxing schedule... which maynot be a problem if ur okay with Oph n OBGY.. as that ull definitely get at your rank!!!
all the best and congrats!

Hi, I just gave my final year exams and I am thinking about surgery, but I do think if I want to manage my home (being a woman) and my career I should go into some sub-speciality of surgery....like opthamology, plastic surgery or ENT . But I would also like to help out women in our community who don't go to male doctors and their diseases remain undiagnosed. The result is I am all confused about which line to choose?

Hi everyone,
Bad news! My final year result is out and its bad, I flunked Surgery by 3 marks. The worst thing is I love surgery and I think I worked the hardest at Surgery in my final year. Also ironic is the fact that my father was a brilliant general Surgeon. All my professors, examiners knew me as his daughter, expecting me to do well. I've failed miserably. Should I still go for surgery! My dad thought I would make a good surgeon and I thought so too cause I like working with my hands!
