being emotionally sensitive should not be an exclusion criteria for Psychiatry .. if it were so it would mean that all psychiatrist are emotionally blunted.. a wrong concept. but as in all fields the level of involvement with the patient definitely has to be controlled.. you cannot get carried away in the care of any particular patient so much so that youget disturbed and cannot handle other patients.. remember you are a doctor not just to that one patient but to many others too..
about having had depression in the past, it is just a reaction to life.. the so called depression could be just a adjustment reaction but do remember that psychiatrist do have the 2nd highest suicide rates amongst doctors.. so it is not a field to be entered into lightly..

that would be snotty if you want me to answer that.. and you have to be an anaesthetic to be in that specialisation having the dubious honour of being 1st amongst the suicide rates..

Recognised seats important, more so if you are planning to work out of your state..
Coming to your choices.. well you are stuck between two of the most in demand fieldss. <a href="http://www.rxpgonline.com/forum105.html">Anaesthesia </a>
is in great demand as a need for all operations also in intensive care units.. but then you will have a life in your hands when you are putting a patient under GA.. stress is always there as would be in any other field in medicine
<a href="http://www.rxpgonline.com/forum65.html">Psychiatry </a>
.. venture only if you like the subject.. very important to know this as if you do not like the subject or the field, it could well be the worst field to get trapped into.. depending on individuals, it is one of the fields where you can be very satisfied as well as unsatisfied.. but for a person who is stable himself, he can be a great help to others, in a field where any help is appreciated not only by the patient but also by the relatives..
So the choice finally remains yours in the end..

thanx snotty.
but how to discover that one is interested in a particular subject.
to tell frankly, i am am an below average backbencher who had more liking 4 canteen and stuff.
but i can take any NO_Scalpel branch

well do give a real thought for the paraclinical subjects too.. money is no problem in there and there is lots of time to spare many extra curricular activities... also ,you could be doing really satisfying work there too even if you do not come in contact with patients.. as for the clinicals, that definitely is a different ball game all together, but believe me, at the end of it you could well be wondering why you chose it as the competition is going to be huge by the time you come out.. which subject you like, your internship postings should give you an better idea!
