HIDA scan is the gold standard investigation for acute cholecystitis when the diagnosis of ac. cholecystitis is not clear after the ultrasound.

real time USG is the first line investigation for biliary tract disease and thereso for acute cholecystitis but its senstivity and specificity is less than biliary scintiscanning i.e.HIDA scan ,which is most accurate test for acute cholecystitis and normal GBscintiscan is virtually 100% accurate in excluding cholecystitis
