@Ash B
First of all I apologise for not reading the whole thread and posting my query directly. I am really short of time.
Tell me about J-1 visa ...i.e. What if a student goes for Clinical Electives (i.e. Clerkship) on J-1 visa?
Universities like
Mount Sinai.
University of Louisville, Kentucky State.
require students to come on J-1 visa for clerkship. (University sponsors J-1 visa I guess)
I was being told that once a student takes J-1 visa for whatever reason chances of getting H-1B visa for Residency become rock bottom. Even DigiDoc has stated the same on his website. Also I read it somewhere that once a student opts for J-1 visa(even for clerkship) he/she has to search for a waiver after 3 years.
Please throw some light on it.

In general J1 visa once means you are subject to a home country return requirement. So getting an H1 becomes impossible in most cases. But J1 story is not so simple, it depends on funding source too. Like for J1 research, if you fund yourself you might be able to get the waiver formality completed in a few months, But if that applies to externship J1, i don't know. best is call up the clerkship office of your university and ask them from information and links where you can find out more.
P.S.: I promise I will post certain specific details of these procedures and other rare info i have later. I can't for now i am busy like hell for the next few days.
