thanks Munish..

that is very helpful, but I have come across to the following information that's why I have doubts...

Tell PD three advantages of a H-visa icon_razz.gif

1) They get to keep you on staff if they like you at the end of residency

2) It's easier to place you in a fellowship on a H1 than a J1 visa icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

3) Now with no cap for academic institutions and premium processing that takes only a few weeks, there's no delay in starting as there was previously.

IT IS EASIER TO GET INTO FELLOWSHIP WITH J1 OR H1??[/b]

Is it true that,

"Fellowship programs usually do NOT like H1 visa applicants."

great post tinkerbell.... however, have you called these programs 'IMG friendly' only because they sponsor H1 visas or also because they are known to accept a sizeable number of international graduates?
thanks

Most institutions welcome J1 candidates... but only a few will be ready to apply for an H1.
If you are ready for a J1 you are likely to get more interviews and offers.
There are a few candidates who completed residency on H1 but had to go for J1 to get into a fellowship of their choice.

Candidates age does not make as much difference as does the time since graduation.
Those who have already spent more than 5 years after medical school are classified as old graduates and less prefered by program directors.
