hello sir/madam i'm doing mbbs from gmc nagpur. i'm very much inclined to take pharmac in pg. i would even give up clinical seat for it. but wud it be worth doing?? we all know it takes a lot of time and money to establish private clinical practice.i dont wanna waste many years giving pg entrance n then even after completing pg to establish practice. does one get instant job after doing md pharmac and what are the common pay scales? also can one do some other course parallel(eg.MBA part -time) while doing md pharmac (it appeared from othr posts tht md pharmac's hav lot of time, so asking) ?

c buddy md pharmas r makin gold literally..
its always an advantage doin md pharma in good colleges as pharma companies have a lobby in these colleges but even periphery college pharmacs rake in equal moolah or somewat lesser but not drastically less..trust me no other branch can give u as much so fast and for all those who speak of ceiling effect,i m sure a 1 lac n half ceiling is quite somethin !!!
all u need is complete security, not a slightest doubt bout leaving clinical branch..
all the best..

Quick Scroll Pharmacology as a career 03.10.07 (1 year ago) #28

i have seen your comments in this forum about career in Pharmacology
after readin all those things i feel that there is more a problem in self esteem than the branch . i am also a resident of Pharmacology (first year) and strongly feel that Pharmacology is in primary stage of evolution (as was radiology few years back) and whosoevere stays with it in all these years of pain will reap the benefit. Point taken that no work in department except for undergraduate teaching thesis & occasional presentations and pg practical . I think thats is also blessin in disguise a syou can use all these days to prepre your self for company . if you work in this branch as a resident in orthopaedics or paed
you can achieve the unbelievable heights. if you had been in a clinical branch(of ur choice) then you might get feeling of worthless by meeting a resident of same branch from a better college than yours say, pgi or AIIMS , it is all about self confidence anything you do, do it with style have confidence in your self and your branch icon_lol.gif icon_biggrin.gif take it from me .. this branch will pay you a lot and you will certainlly cherish that moment when you opted for this branch icon_biggrin.gif ok tell which branch can offer you 50,000 bucks after u r pg that too in metro city (except radio) pharm can fetch you even more than all that is needed is competence level .. always choose a less visited road, keep patience while u r on that road , dividends will be certainly higher

Hi ssri!
Good to hear encouraging words from someone who is a resident in Pharmacology .
I have some confusions,though..wat is meant by"u get time for preparing for company"..what prep did u mean??I dont know about ur clg,but here in our clg(im in my 1st yr) we hardly get any feel of the industry during PG.It might be different in KEM or PGI or AIIMS given these clgs have a lobby in most big companies. But what about clgs which are not as reputed and has got no lobby in the MNCs??PLEASE TELL ME WAT SORT OF PREP CAN ONE DO DURING PG SO AS TO JOIN INDUSTRY POST-MD??...that wud really be of help..

And im not so sure if tomorrow i meet someone from AIIMS or PGI or KEM,i wont have this feeling of being in a little disadvantageous position, given that my institution does not offer me all the facilities that they get there!!

Choosing a less visited road(as i have done) might be a bit risky,too..u might at times feel lonely, since u dont get to see many taking the road..U must wait three long years to prove that u had taken a stylish decision by going the unconventional way.Thats not to say the road is not worth taking;simply that u need a lot of self-motivation to keep ur spirit up!!
