RBCS IN THE BLOOD TENDS TO SWELL AND HAEMOLYSE UNLESS Na-K PUMP IS ACTIVE TO MAINTAIN THE SIZE OF THE CELL.THIS PUMP REQUIRES ENERGY...........WHEN BLOOD IS TAKEN OUT THIS ENERGY IS PROVIDED BY THE ADDITION OF GLUCOSE TO THE ACD MIXTURE........IF NOT RATE OF HAEMOLYSIS WILL BE MORE

HOPE SO THIS WILL HELP IN SOLVING UR PROBLEM icon_smile.gif

i too confused now!

i think myself has solved the problem almost!

uptill now i cosidered glucose for nutrition.

among your options 2-3-DPG is ruled out.

the main confusion is between nutrition & hemolysis?

if q. cmes with same option i will mostly go for hemolysis!

glycolysis is the only pathway to replenish atp levels in rbc`s. without atp rbc`s will swell and burst. So glucose will have to be present in adequate quantities.

2-3 DPG is a byproduct of the glycolysis pathway, which because it binds to the b subunits of hb , decreases hb affinity to oxygen, ie shifts hb dissociation curve to right.

I guess i would go for nutrition first , then as a 2,3 DPG replenisher 2nd.
