hi guys..
firstly.. i've got my 10yr multi entry visa.... but my interiview was almost a tragedy!!! the VO's last words to me were... sir, i am issuing you a visa, but i want you to come back home within 4-5 days after you CS exam!! ( i had said i wanted to stay in US for 4 months..till my step3 is over!)
anyways... the reason why i am posting this thread... is that i yet wish to stay for 4 months in US... would there be any problem later on?????
i know somebody who'd 10yr visa got CANCELLED at the portal of entry! evev he'd a 10yr multi entry visa... he got an initialy stay visa of 6 months... after which he re-entered US by going to the carribean & back.... got another 4 months of stay in US that way........ after these 10 months, he came home to India..... when he went back to the US this time, at the portal of entry, his 10yr visa got CANCELLED... and was deported back to india in the next flight!!!
all help will be appreciated!!!
somebody pls shed some light on this issue!

That was strange.
So they issue 10yr. visa at begining but we are not allowed to stay longer than 6 months?
So it means that 10yr. visa is for name sake only.
Can someone enlighten us about these visas!!!

10 yr mul entry doesnt mean u can stay for whole 10 years.
it means u dont have to go and apply for visa everytime u want to visit USA. but when u reach u have to prove your visit and gain a stay, which is max of 6months, after which u may extend 3 months on your proving it.
but when u return home to india u have to wait for normally 6 months to go USA again, otherwise u maybe rejected entry at POE.

Hi ,
How r u???
please clarify the thing in ur last post,"but when u return home to india u have to wait for normally 6 months to go USA again, otherwise u maybe rejected entry at POE."
I mean this holds good if u take extension then u have to stay in INdia as a gap period for 6 months before going back to usa.........
or even without extension, u have to wait 6 months before entering again USA

I dont agree that one has to stay in India for six months before going again to the US.
I recently visited the US on B2 and at port of entry asked the same Q to the homeland security officer. He told I could come back whenever I wish. There is no such rule that one has to be in home country for 6 months. This obviously would have been a ridiculous idea if it was true!
If you have 10 yr multiple entry visa, it means you can visit the US as many times u wish in next 10 yrs. But the length of stay for each visit will be decided by the homeland security officer, at the port of entry.

It really depends on the homeland security officer to decide how long he/she allows. But they are usually not fussy abt it. My return ticket was after 10 days and they gave me 3 months of stay.
As far as I know, u are allowed to stay for a max of 6 months, afterwards u can extend ur stay further. But I dont know the details of this. I am sure u wud get that info on US immigration website.

let me clear this-
what we apply for giving CS, take interviews is B1/B2 visa.... which is taken by all visitors, etc, not only docs
a 10 yr visa means it is valid for 10 years..... but u can't stay longer than 6 months at a streatch. u can return back and go the next day. but u won't have to appear for visa interview for next 10 yrs... u can go anytime till 10 yrs.
a 10 yr visa issued person can still be denied entry to US and deported back if the officer thr feels so.... so keep ur fingers crossed.....
