Hi Antar,
FRCOphth is a new style exam about to begin in the UK.
Presently you have the MRCOphth exam but it does not consider possessing an ICO for exemption.
You have the FRCS examination which will recognise the ICO as an exemption for its MCQ paper.
Possessing an ICO itself is however quite prestigious too as it is an international exam of quite a high standard.
Explore them all and decide.
( The UK however does not recognise the ICO to get into its teaching/ training programmes)
All the best !
Rop

I don't know what u mean by " training", but the exam itself will be conducted in Egypt starting October 2007. I will sit the October exam isa, but will do so in London though.

I will start preparing pretty soon. I didn't even find the review books or anything in Egypt, so I'll order the books via Amazon. It is such a costly process.

Hello everybody
it's nice to here that there are other Egyptian colleagues following this forum,

Ayat, concerning the training you may want to check with Maghrabi eye Hospital, I think I've heared that they may have some activities like that but think it is in selected branches.

msayed82, If you've been searching at Kasr El Aini, that's right but I think you may find another selection at Aain Shams, You may want to check with them before buyig from Amazon.

Have a good luck with your exams,

By the way, would you kindly tell me that books you intend to prepaire from, as also I am little confused and need some help about that.

thanks.

Hi guys!! this is my first post in this forum after having joined DOMS in a regional institute of ophthal...
Have been discouraged by many frm continuing this course in the past two months, on the grounds that NO ONE RESPECTS a diploma holder..
icon_sad.gif
Did believe them for a long time, but now have decided to stick on and make the most of this course, and the opportunities beyond..
I want to give my frcs part 1 or fico 1 exams.. but am finding it difficlt to find exact info on these things..
here are a few questions..
1. does the fico basic and clinical exams course also make me eligible to apply directly for an frcs?
2. which of the 3 royal colleges demands least years of trainig, and which one expects no trainingn the UK?
3. do i have to work in the UK to procure these degrees?
4. what is the approx expenditure involved?
Vitamin_k, ROP, and all others senior to me, who have already completed one or more steps or plan to d so in the near future, PLEASE help me build my career!

FRCS and FRCOphth will look good on ur card. But ultimately, its abt where u want to practice. If u r remaining in India, MS shd be enough.
But if u r determined abt adding degrees, FRCOphth seems to be the most worthwhile option.
