Quick Scroll MY CS exam experience 02.20.07 (1 year ago) #1

Hii everyone, I took my CS exam in Houston. It was a few months ago and since I have posted my exam experiences of AMC, step1 and CK, I thought it wont be right to post those of CS and Step3. So, here it goes:

The hotel van took 4-5 of the CS exam takers in the morning. Imagine, 4-5 ppl taking the same exam on same day staying at the same Days Inn. But then below- 50$ rooms arent easy to find in US!

The Preparation time:

A regular preparation time of anywhere between 15 to 30 days is more than enough. I had a month on my hands after taking my CK, and I thought that would be enough, but that whole month went by in collecting LORs, making CV, preparation for visa documents, visa counsellar visits, actual visa interview, forex, travel arrangements, airline tickets and other miscelleneous stuff. So, before I knew, I was reading only my second case from First Aid at Schiphol airport,Amsterdam!

Needless to say, I was p****ng in my pants!

The study resources:

I personally used only First Aid for CS along with videos of physical exam. But for those who have more than 15 days, I would recommend U-world too alongwith FA.

The DOs:

1. Cant stress it enough......the best thing is to have a study partner. I arrived in Houston on 2 Sep. and my exam was on 6th. I was able to find a new date and managed to postpone it to 8th which was the last day in the slot. So, I studied for about 7 days, including the weird time spent in jetlag.

What I did was read the whole FA once and see the physical exam videos and start practicing cases, first 4-5 untimed to get a feel of it. And then timing them, right from the knock on the door. I did one case and my study partner was the simulated patient(SP) and then I became the SP. So, it went like that. We practiced all 27 odd cases of FA 3 times on each other.

2. Remain calm. Dont be overwhelmed by the occassion. Once the first knock on the door is done, ur day has gone before you know it.

3. The SPs are super nice, except the ones who have to play the part of an angry or difficult patient.

4. Try to speak in english as much as possible well before the exam. Will take the added pressure off u.

5. Remember the formulae given in FA. Thev first thing i did in every case,at least the ones involving pain was to write down those formulae on my paper.

6. Just rush through the examination real fast. The SPs hardly know or care bout the correct manner of doing assorted manouvers. You're being marked more on ur bedside mannerisms than anything else y the SPs.

I think thats about it.
'nuff said.

Adios!
