thanks dear smanzar..
i already have a playstation 2 and i think its great for playing games... it has some advantages over PC based gaming like no installation needed and cheaper gaming...

but the PS2 platform is quite old and the graphics of modern games are much better enjoyed when played on a latest PC with good enough graphics card...
Need for speed Carbon is the latest example for which the PS2 hardware proves to be simply underpowered..
try playing NFS:Carbon on a PS2 and you'll be sadly disappointed by the graphics.. which is not the case for an adequately powered PC..

now this brings us to the PS3 which surpasses even the most cutting edge PC hardware in its graphics capabilities... yes it is a piece of beauty..
but sadly it is way overpriced when you consider it can be used only for gaming...
add to this equation the high price of PS3 games.. about 2500 rs a piece...

so until PS3 receives a price cut.. i'll prefer to stick with my PC icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Hi Vikingboy

It's been a long time we had a talk (the last time I suppose was on [snip] or the "fav Game" thread).. hehe

Interesting topic you guys have got here. I'd like to add in my two cents of advice and flaunt my recently upgraded rig icon_lol.gif

First of all regarding the AMD chipsets - Well someone mentioned that they over heat. Of all my 5 years of PC experience I've experienced heating only on the the very earlier AMD chipsets (the ones available in 2002, I guess). Of late the the AMD chipsets are the most energy efficient, with the most silent CPU fans and produced less heat. All has changed with the advent of the C2D processors from Intel (they're at par with the AMD performance now). The rates of intel C2D processors and intel based MOBO's are actually cheaper ATM (just because they're more in demand). I guess whatever Intel does, it can never beat the overclocking capabilities of an AMD processor.

I still remember the good 'ol days when I used to overclock my AMD Athlon 300+ 1.8 ghtz to 2.4 ghtz (of course over clocking did produce some massive heat but fortunately I was sane enough to had an external cooling system installed). Anyway Let's not get carried away with brand wars over here. Let's just say that I've been a happy camper with the AMD and ASUS brands for over 5 years now and continue to do so in the future.

Now comes the fun part. I used to be on a very primitive system till december last year when I gathered enough money and relatives in USA icon_razz.gif . I had made a systematic upgrade plan and pumped in about 1700$ over the last 6 months and just yesterday I upgraded the last piece of hardware on my PC - The "ASUS Silent Knight" CPU fan

My current sys config is:

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 2.8 Ghtz
MOBO - ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe/Wireless Edition
GPU - ASUS EN8800GTX AquaTank/HTDP/768M
SMPS - ASUS A55GA SMPS
RAM - Transcend 4 GB DDR2 800mhtz
HDD - 300 + 300 GB Samsung SATA2
DVD RW + RAM - LG GSA 4613B

Cooling Solution:
CPU - ASUS Silent Knight
MOBO - Swiftech H2O-220 APEX Ultra Liquid Cooling Kit

Speakers - Well I don't use speakers. I've got my Bose headphones icon_cool.gif
Keyboard - Logitech diNovo Edge Bluetooth Keyboard
Mouse - Logitech MX Revolution
Monitor - Samsung 940MW 19" Monitor

Phew!!

Next upgrade - When I get my residency in MD Medicine icon_razz.gif

Hi chmiq, I meant CPU FSB and RAM clocks.
It is bit complicated. I will try to be as simple as possible.

First you need to buy Memory compatible with motherboard (I assume you have already checked motherboard compatibility for CPU).

let’s assume you brought AMD Athlon XP 3000+ CPU and compatible motherboard. This CPU clock is 333 MHz. now if you install PC3200 DDR because you have DDR slot on motherboard, your system will not work because this DDR module has 400 MHz clock. However the motherboard BIOS will default to the speed of the slowest clock installed. But, for some motherboards you need to change the clock in bios manually.

Common symptom is BSOD (blue screen of death) with memory dump. That means your system will not boot and every time you try you get BSOD.

What is the point in paying for DDR3200 and get only 133/333 clock speed. instead you can pay less and get PC 2100.

I hope that helps. Please feel free to comment.
