How safe is orkut?
Does giving photos and identity on this site pose any real life problem?
What is identity theft?
Why orkut has been blocked in many offices/companies? Is that coz it kills working hours or anything more serious?

orkut isnt safe untill its so called rules and policies are fixed !
me too posted a few pics of mine . wish to remove it soon . anyone can create an exclusive offensive id as ours with our pics and this is highly troublesome . i hate such things . orkut is no rxpg where we have registered moderators and playing so safe . even the orkut moderators arent seem to be real sometimes , even i was called to moderate a few times . i didnt accept since i wish to spend the most time with rxpg and orkut has no control on its members and its so called rules are useless and trouble creaters penetrate and cross the rules so often , similar to our offbeat orkut too has a rule of creating threads and forums without offending or pointing any single or institution or group or any country but nothing is followed there many anti indian ( iv seen many , too many ) . im too only visiting orkut to meet friends and nowadays im diverting my friends group here to rxpg so that all medical and personal works have some secrecy , privacy and everything is guaranteed here . im so happy to see my friends feeling so great about rxpg and me too so happy to meet them here .
though the creation of orkut is great the continuation of its purpose and policy isnt that strict and now the major of the whole of orkut forums seem to be hijacked . its purpose is no longer served in a whole good way .
so until or other wise the so called rules and policies are followed its better not to put too much personal infos or pics in orkut .
i wish every member to comment on this topic and on my comments , i would welcome it with a happy heart

i visit it so regularly and just a bit less to rxpg . just visit few health forums . only now few of its forums were made spam free after our huge pressings .
you know once i visited a forum named in my city chennai and got into a thread posing it to be a sort of prediction work which asks us to enter all our personal infos on first and latest crush and love then it assures of its trueness with too many good words , i filled all infos with some famous personalities and finally it said that iv been cheated and all my personal ( the actual famous personalities one already well known ) infos have reached a gmail account with a orkut account too . where are the policies and where are the rules , a fellow fooling all members who dropin trusting the huge name google , gmail or orkut or orkut communities .
even i get a handful of spams and offensive messages and advertisements daily which were originally sent to all the members of my medical academy named community . these people who send this aren't even our students nor doctors .
whom to trust when no policies work . even for a single pencil we people expect a guarantee but here most of the members seems tobe fake and spammers

orkut is'int a good site...
coz there are lots of mischief mongers...
no rules...
no control...
its a good example showing how bad can be too much socializing... on net...
I recently received a forwarded email regarding the latest mishap connected with orkut... the story was in the newspapers too... would like to copy paste it over if i have permission...

I liked Orkut in the beginning, But later on seeing the whole aspects of it i am not an Orkut fan now.
Why bcoz,
There is no facility of private scrapping
The Private mail facility is hampered by tons of spam mails & Please Join "How to kill Mosquito" Community request messages.
Many of these communities does not have any rules/restrictions, as a result Hate communities & Porn communities are spawning up like mushrooms in orkut. And any one can abuse anyone without any fear in many communities. Another terrible thing is people are fighting with each other in the name of religion.
Another menace is fake profiles, Millions and Millions of fake profiles. I had seen an incident in which a guy to have some sort of revenge on a girl, made a fake profile of that girl(exact replica) and used that profile for abusing others and posted in porn sites in her name. This is not an isolated incident.
These are just tip of the ice berg. Unless some strict rules are imposed on orkut, these malpractices will continue and it will one day consume it.

i too got it and went through that profile but now the same has been removed . i was so shocking to see how people take revenge and use the public medium , and it is highly highly shocking to see how such huge web makers failed to stop this menace .
i think and hope that the people responsible will take necessary steps though its too late .
