Send Scrap To all & Inadvertent Spamming
This New Year, You might have received hundreds of scraps from your friends with their caring wishes.
You must have become very happy to see so many people remembered you in the New Year.
....................
But if you look close, Each scrap has some thing in it! What is it? Its a link!
Where does it lead to? It leads to an Orkut community! That means Its an Ad.
An Ad, if send to hundreds of people at once becomes what is called "spam".
So Technically speaking, Many orkut users inadvertently served as Mass Advertisers/Spammers.
Sending scrap to all your friends with an AD is a little less friendly.
Your friend will find it more nice if you spend some time typing the message in their scrapbook.
Your Orkut Account can get cancelled if you send hundreds of mass scraps with in a short time interval.

Social Networking turns out to be a Nightmare to two Girls
Some one played a dirty trick on Two Chandigarh girls by posting their fake profiles in Orkut, describing them as Prostitutes.
The person even posted their mobile numbers in the fake profiles.
This resulted in an outpouring of obscene calls on to their phones, causing humiliation and mental agony to the victims.
The Police have registered the case and they believe some one know to them will be behind this shameless act.
Source: Times Of India News
Personally i don't believe Social Networking is responsible for these events.
But all these events are definitely destroying the Charm which social networking sites had in the past.
If you search in the same sites you will find many hundreds of Fake profiles of innocent girls describing them as call girls.
I am not exaggerating the numbers.
This is indeed the Ugliest Face of Social Networking.
So whats the solution? Its simple!
Stop seeing internet as a world filled with sunshine and rainbows.
Internet is even worse than real world bcoz of the weak cybercrime laws.
Practice adequate caution like you do in the real world.
You don't venture alone into a dark alley at midnight in the real world.
You don't go on a date with an absolute stranger in the real world.
Just practice the same stranger anxiety in the virtual world also.
Then you will always be safe in the real world.

Hi dr_2k7,
Here are a few tips avoid your password being stolen,
Never click on the untrusted links in the spam mails.
Use a Good Antivirus, Antispyware and a Good firewall.
(These threads will help, )
Use Windows XP to access internet instead of Windows 9 8 /2000.
Update your Windows XP to the latest version by going to update.microsoft.com
While you use orkut, never click on untrusted links scrapped by strangers.
Never submit your orkut log in id an password to sites which are not affiliated to Google.

Oh yes you are right.
But if a password manager is used, its hard to steal or to decrypt the stolen password files. Enabling a master password in Firefox offers Good protection. But still nothing offers 100% protection, so if you happen to run any untrusted scripts in your browser, change your password asap.
Another point i have noticed is that, while you run such a script in your browser, the script hijacks your scrapbook for a while and sends scraps to all your friends without your knowledge asking your friends to copy paste the script.

Avoid Running Scripts.... Avoid "bulk scrapping"
