Better Still user BOSS Live CD for browsing... It is a stand alone Linus (Debian) OS... and will not be connected to your other files.....

Not only orkut... Never submit any user ID and password to ANY OTHER Site

Yes its safe. Only a real professional can bye pass the locks.
As long as you keep everything locked, your personal details will always be safe from online theft (eg: picture theft).
Orkutting will be safer as long as we don't mess with any one online or in real world.
We cant blindly call orkut as the root cause of all these problems.
Many of the offences in orkut actually arises due to the issues the people had with others in the real world.
I mean an angry ex-bf/gf, a rejected lover, an enemy all find it easy to pay back via the online mode bcoz of the anonymity offered by the virtual world.

Locking the photos and scrapbooks are surely helpful in protecting ones info on orkut but only two months back I had stumbled upon an orkut community named sumthing like orkut codes where I saw there were codes given openly which when entered into the address bar after opening sumones profile could show u the pics they have uploaded and locked! I actually saw it for myself and it did work!! But when I searched for the code again it was removed from there. That community was filled with requests for how to open locked scrapbooks and albums. Seeing that I really was upset thinking that people are capable of doing anything nowadays, can break any codes orkut puts up for privacy matter..  So, I really am not sure to what extent we can keep things private on any social network..only God knows!

Orkut Team have been aggressively fixing these security issues, but people always find some new ones! 
Most of the orkut communities which helps in propagation of these codes have been deleted.
But new communities will again crop up in no time!
Many of these codes are like a Two edged sword.
If u copy paste and run these codes while you are logged in, your account can get hacked or the password may be stolen.
More over the same code will send mass scraps from your id to your friends with out your knowledge.
These mass scraps mostly contain messages which appear to be written by you, asking your friend to try the code!
So stay away from these codes.

hey , i got the same problem in orkut. i got some pop up which was in some different lang. i tried to cross it but it was not going. now i got scapes from many of my frineds that they got scraps from me but there is nothing.............
i don't know what to do now ? will changing my password will work or not ?
what to do now ? plz tell me .,

Did you Copy Paste and Run a code(script) or click on an untrusted link(in scrapbook) while you are logged into orkut?
If you did, it must have been the code that opened the Popup window.
And it should be the same code that used your account to scrap all your friend with out your knowledge.
This script behaves like a virus. So there are chances that your account may be compromised.
Here is what you need to do as early as possible,
Download and install this Free Anti-Spyware tool
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Scan your PC in Safe mode (write these down in a paper)
* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* Open Ad-Aware 2007 and do a complete system scan.
* Restart your PC. (It will boot in normal mode)

Open orkut using a different browser than your usual. (firefox, opera)
Go to your account and change your password and change your alternate email account.
Use a strong password. Please don't use the names of your close friends or relatives. The password must be atleast 7 characters long, and if possible add numbers or symbols in the password.
(Dont forget to write down your password, else you may forget)

thanks a lot. i am trying to do so .
i have not copy paste anything.
3 days back i opened orkut and i saw some strange massage written on a pop up window . i could not see the full screen , so i tried to close this pop up window. it was not going even after a long try.
then i started getting scapes from my friends that they got some massages and scapes from id.
anyways let me try and lets see what happen . i am feeling very tense everyone is asking me why i am senidng blank massages or massages in different lang.
