Delving back into your memories is
one of the best feelings in the world!

Well in this thread i'd like to post
some of the old and classical video and computer games
we'd played while we were kids...
Trying to remember our childhood... icon_biggrin.gif
Lets come together over here and
cherish those Golden Days of our lives...
So that we can say once again...
"Those were the best days of my life..."

Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia was one of the first games I ever played, and one of the most memorable.
Basically, you play a prince whose princess was kidnapped. I think. You have to make your way through several hard and puzzling maze-like levels to get to her and save her. On the way you find potions, poisons, enemies, swords, spikes and platforms.
Gameplay is smooth, classic and clean, and definitely an instant favorite if you're a fan of 8-bit. The storyline is hard to follow as I remember correctly, but once you play it, it makes sense. Not to mention HIGHLY addicting and very challenging! It will get your brain moving and will ultimately get you hooked. All the fun quirks about the dungeons you travel through make the game have one new turn after another.

I remember now being afraid of the dungeons because of the fact that spikes popped up randomly and that anything could kill you, and whenever I played it, I could never figure out how to fight the baddies. Nevertheless, even I, as a young child, managed to understand gameplay.
Certain elements make the game really fun. Things like booby traps, secret doors, potions that increase or decrease your life power, and the ever-present wonder of, "Will I get to the princess?" Although slightly sanguine (in an 8-bit, pixelated sort of way) when one falls on the spikes (it's the noise I don't like!) it is still good for the family to play and will definitely intrigue anyone who plays it, or simply remind those of us who remember it how nostalgia feels good.
Highly addicting? Check. Clean? Check. Incredibly fun? Check. Instant classic? Very check! I highly recommend this game to everyone and anyone willing to give it a chance. I know if I could go back and play it, I would. It's one of those games you could play forever and never get tired of! Truly entertaining and an amazing game. I would love to play it again. If you've never played it, I hope this review may have convinced you to try it for yourself.

Prince Of Persia 2

One of the most influential series of games from the nineties, Prince of Persia 2 continues where the first game left off, as again the Prince is confronted with a series of puzzles and traps in order to rescue the Sultans daughter from the evil Grand Vizier Jaffar and clear his name.
There are fifteen levels for the Prince to work through in this game, and completing a level can often require you to play it more than once. You will find yourself doing less climbing and hanging from ledges, as this has been dropped in favour of combat.

As in the original Prince of Persia, the prince has a certain amount of time to reach Jaffar in order to succeed, with the real time taken to complete each level being deducted from the game clock. This helps to create a sense of urgency in what otherwise could have been a very slow game, and if I have one main criticism of the game then this is it: the effort that has clearly gone into improving the graphics in the game meant that it did feel a little clunky at times. But this is a minor drawback when you consider that there really was nothing like this around at the time. A true original.
Other additions to the game worth mentioning are the ability to use a magic carpet, and for the prince top become a shadow in order to get past certain areas.

Graphically, this game improved heavily on the original, with the platforms replaced by beautifully drawn landscapes which helped to create a bigger sense of atmosphere, and made the game feel like more of a journey. Enemies are brilliantly animated, appearing more frequently than in the original and with more on screen at once. This also gives the game more of an epic feel.
Combat in the game remains the same, swordfights are just as fun as in the original, and the Prince can now use magic on his foes such as fireballs. Magic can also be used tactically to aid the prince’s quest with healing spells and the ability to fall like a feather to overcome large drops. Extra enemies have been added to the game, so in addition to Jaffars guards you will come up against skeletons, snakes and mythical creatures. As usual, the further you get into the game, the more difficult these foes will become to defeat, thus training your skills in order to face Jaffar at the end of the game.

Pac-Man

Oh what a classic, you can never go wrong with great old pacman, whether it brings back memories of your favorite old time pizza parlor or of your very first video game ever played this is a great nostalgic classic that also provides excellent gameplay. Although the graphics are nonexistent when you are used to playing games that use the full extent of your nvidia, pacman does not rely on its graphics for its fun value. The sheer joy that can be derived from eating white dots while avoiding blue creatures is irreplaceable even with the amazing technology available in video games today.

Come on you should know this by now but the gameplay is very simple. Basically run around trying to consume all the white dots while avoiding being touched by any of the blue creatures wandering around in the maze with you. Run over a large white dot and you turn the tables on those pesky blue guys and get to chase them for a short time before they revert back to their pacman eating selves. Once all the white dots are gone you get to move on to the next stage with each stage getting progressively harder. That’s the general gist of the game we so fondly call pacman.

Replayability depends on your ability to be entertained by a giant mouth eating white dots. Although it is pretty easy to beat the first time there is something that consistently draws you back into the game and doesn’t let you go. Although you may put down the game for a week or two you’ll find a strange craving about every two weeks for pacman again. The very fact that pacman is still around after all these years is a testimony to its awesome ability to get people back in even after long absences from the game.

That’s about all there is to this game, if you don’t know what pacman is about you should get the game from somewhere in order to not be totally out of the loop, seriously it is very sad if you have never played pacman. I seriously cannot give this game enough credit just for the fact of all the years it’s been around. Very enjoyable, decent replayability, and an aspect that keeps cramming you back into your childhood remembering playing it at your local pizza parlor makes this game a must have somewhere on your computer.

Mario

Created in 1990, this game is an all time classic. There is nearly no one who can say they haven't played it and loved it. Featuring everyone's favorite little mustached guy 'Mario' this is one of the first multi player games. It features Mario's brother Luigi and together the two brothers have to kill all the turtles in order to get to the last stage, save the queen and finish the game.

Contra

Released in 1987 by the Konami Corporation. Contra is a Vietnam war game with your character who thinks he looks good in blue or if you play two player the his twin wears red. Contra’s popularity came from that you can play two players at the same time which at the time was uncommon feature in video games at that time. This is an arcade action game which is full of cool weapons.
Graphics are nice and clean and music has that arcade feel. It keeps on playing in your mind even after you leave the game.

The story line goes something like this, that in the future a meteor strike hit a fictional island off the cost of New Zealand . In this meteor came a dormant alien life form. In the year 2633 a terrorist organization known as the Red Falcon had commenced activity to take control of the work. You and your comrade have traveled to the island to stop this threat. (Ok... Thats what I gathered from the introduction... Nevertheless...)

You or a friend go thought the forest you have to shoot up many enemies with your machine gun. When you kill the enemy you can pick up very gritty weapons. Like the machine gun that sprays in a fan shape. The Lazier gun, some big ball which must hurt, and many more. You character can doge enemy fire with his supper jump in the air and huddle in a ball. (Ok... Just take it as if he can do acrobatics to miss enemy fire).

The controls are great to use. You can fire in any direction you like which makes the game much more fun than just up, down, left and right. There are tanks snipers in the trees and big boss tanks at the end of each level. That is not all because if you get hooked to the game which I did and I know you will there is much more divers enemy’s as you progress in this game.
All up this is a great arcade game that should not be missed. This game is full of action, guns and great fun.

Wolfenstein 3D

This game is Great! While it may not be fun to the whole family, but playing it is so fun. There is a lot of blood and guts in this game. The single player mode is really fun and gives player a lot of freedom over the game. Definitely check this out if you like shooting and killing games. The first few levels of the game are not really exciting, but killing all the crazy monsters is fun. One time I shot this one monster, and then another one came charging at me, and I shot him too, so I got double points.
The graphics are fantastic, I love the 3d animation. (I've even seen Screensavers made out of the game installed on the computers of big companies.) Sometimes it looks so real, that you think that you are doing this in real life, which gives you a big boost of confidence because you are scared of dying yourself. In comparison with other games of this genre Wolfenstein 3D: Mortal Kombat Edition is absolute leader.

icon_biggrin.gif This is the first game i ever played. It was in 1995 or 96 i think. My first computer classes was abt DOS. We all got 1 hour game time. In this time i played this game icon_biggrin.gif There is one tough level in the middle in which the price has to run and jump 3/4 times thru towers with fragile floor icon_biggrin.gif And in the 3/4th section of this game there is some level where he sees some one like him but with the negative colour. I never knew how to pass thru that level coz the game ended just when the prince sees that guy! I used to call my teacher and she used to help me skip that level icon_biggrin.gif

In the end the prince meets the princess & they just run away! icon_eek.gif I was very disappointed to see this! The princess didnt' even talked to the person who came for her passing 13/14 gruesome levels! playing for hours(there was no option to save the game) I expected more! icon_biggrin.gif

Tetris

Ok well, if I could go back in time and tell you how many hours and days I spent playing this game, it would probably explain why my grades in school were so bad. I absolutely have to say that Tetris is not only a classic, but it is permanently embedded into my brain. I think that this game was way beyond its time when you compare it to some of the other games in its day.
If I ever got to the 20th level I would be happy. I was never successful enough to win the game. I think you have to be near genius level to beat the game.
