Quick Scroll some queries on path as a career 11.24.07 (10 months ago) #1

hi everybody!

dear members, i hope to get some valuable guidance here...

i finished mbbs in2006 ,now preparing for pg exams..im not interested much in clinical medicine..
i felt i should chose Pathology as i really love to read Pathology than any other subject..but one thing confuses me is that Pathology as a career can be different from reading mechanisms and flowcharts as given in books..i thought it could be tough or even boring with full of slides n specimens always.
how would be Pathology career in general? should we have any particular talent to shine in this field ? (for eg a physician should have a good rapport with patients to be successful)
how about research oriented activities, esp in genetics, after doing md path?
can anyone who has experience kindly enlighten me on this..?

Hi , Pathology is not at all boring with specimens and slides if you are one of them who loves to read and explore, i have done my MD ,infact Histopathology and Cytology are the most interesting things.Pathology as a craeer in metros is much different than in smaller cities as it is much marred by incentives and percentage one needs to give to clinicians .If u have future plans to settle in a small city , dont go for Pathology , dermat is better option and if u have futureplans of being in a metro or any place wid better potential , go ahead for that.
Besides Pathology wud need eventually a lot of socializing (wherever u r ) in private practice, go and attend a Pathology lab with some private practitioner to have a first hand experience acc to ur circumstances.

hi moderator!
very sorry for this delayed response..
n thanks a lot for ur suggestions..indeed helpful
hows the scope for research orinted jobs in Pathology , in genetics, immunology etc..? is biochem the only option for research in genetics or path can offer it too?
n one more thing, wat i meant previously was..in my ug period i had little interest in looking into slides, rather i liked to read the subject more(the pathogenesis part)........so wat worries me is will this career be a wrong option for me ?
kindly enlighten me on this dear moderator..thank u...

Histopathology slides in UG days and In PG are entirely different scenario. Pathology is certainly not what and the way we perceive in Undergraduate days, It is a lot more interesting and challenging. And reserach is availbe in Pathology as well but u will have to have a quick look on the locations and intitutes which offer it.

Hi everyone, saw this interesting thread recently.i made up my mind rcntly 2 do Pathology (actually MRCPath i'm living in UK).but my decision is not according 2 my intrests,i thought it'd b feasible to manage both my family n professional life(i'm a female).i'm intersested in clinical spcialties but again...... i'm so confused.as u see choosing a specialty is very crucial coz it's a decision that lasts for life.....
