We should get organised.RxPG is a very good venue to meet and discuss. But we need to widen the arena. We need to convince people about inefficiencies and deficiencies of DMER.
Last 10 years the population of Maharashtra has zoomed beyond once imagination ,the health infrastructure has not been able to keep in pace with that developoment.Instead the number of resident doctors who form the spine of health system has been decreasing systematically .They have not been able to even maintain it forget about increasing the seats.
Governments are busy creating new IITs,IIMs.Well nothing wrong about it .But then health is the most fundamental right of human beings. Our issue of adequate number of government hospitals is not just 'our' problem ,it is the problem of common man that walks on street.Ultimately public hospitals caters to the poorest of poors.
We have failed to show this aspect to the people.I was shocked to see media coverage of MARD strikes.Doctors were shown in such a poor light.
Number of correspondents were giving impression as if doctors are the selfish and adamant creatures who would not budge from their demands whatever may be the plight of patients, totaly insensitive to public interest.
There are no takers to the plight of doctors.Inhuman conditions in which resident doctors work are never seen or shown to the people.
The only reason for all the mess is because we are not organised.
If we are there as a group as a crowd then only we will be heard.
We were so helpless during MARD strike.I mean I did not know what to do .Sure we are the ones in fireline .We are going to be loosers or winners whatever the result of all this .But we were not there anywhere ,in the strike.
As I said as just student we have no leverage and no bargaining power. But MARD does have.
Different organisations for Students, interns, residents divides our power.
It is more important to have unified organisation.
The best option would be to make MARD more inclusive .
I have decided I was very shy person all along.I could not have imagined my self being there in forefront .But now I have decided whenever I will join as resident.I will make every effort to be there in the MARD.
I remember the pamphlates i recieved 1 year back for MCI election .I did not participate. Now I understand my mistake. We must have representatives in MCI who will lend voice to our fair and just demands.
I feel we have been lazy and complacent in using all the measures that our Democratic instituitions have given to us.
We have weapon like RTI with us.We can make wonders happen !.DMER can be brought to its knees. But we do not know how to use it.We have not utilised the full potential of RTI.
RTI should be our ultimate weapon in our fight with DMER.
And most important thing is to keep talking ,keep engaged with each other.
Guys TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More.We need teamwork.
All of you who feel that we need to fight injustice, keep posting your views here.
Remember our long term goal should be the Fair and Just Health system in Maharashtra .The increase of seats or inclusion of unrecognised seats is just short term goal or temporary measure.
Why not all seats be recognised ?
Why not have more PG seats ?
It is the demand of time.
What is exactly lacking ?
Is is it because of lack of Money ?
Money is absolutely not a problem In India/Maharashra /Mumbai .
You can not imagine what tremendous amount of money goes down the drain .Even if the fraction of money is properly utilised ,we would not have to stand where we stand today....fighting for 182 unrecognised seats ..

On Antarctica expedition India uses german vehicles called Pisten [bleep]( each worth 1.5 )crore .The German engineer who came to repair told me that he had come to Mumbai very often .I was surprised ,I asked him what for ,we do not have snow vehicles in Mumbai .He said that Mumbai corporation has bought quit a few few beach cleaners worth millions of dollars for beach cleaning pupose from their company Kassbohrer.
He said there is nothing to be surprised about that one for Mumbai corporation is the richest one in asia.
Just imagine Mumbai corporation can spend millions on some damn beach cleaners from germany .What about the health of its people.
Now they have awakened and are planning to start two new medical colleges in mumbai. This was long due.
For 1.5 crore population the richest corporation offers mere 4000 beds of public hospitals .It is not fair...
The city that pays 1/4'th of National revenue deserves far better treatment.
Do you know the amount of money that Mumbai pumps in the coffers of India is far more than the sums of revenue generated by Delhi,Calcutta,Bangalore, hyderabad and so on.....
Money must not be a problem.Whenever I hear of multibillion dollar deals of Defences ,I really wonder why we can not spend fraction of it on Health .
Well it is not about money..It is plain apathy of governments.
When I was working as Medical officer at JJH ,Anti Retroviral Therapy Centre in 2005.There was a proposal to start Fellowship in HIV Medicine at JJH with the help of Clinton foundation.Government had to just give permission which was just a formality. No money was involved.Govt did not have to spend a single ruppe of this project .Onthe contrary it would have generated revenue for govt in terms of fee for the course. For such course no MCI,MMC permission is required.
But for no reason this project was doomed by Government of Maharashtra .
The CMC Vellore has taken the cue and Grant Medical college has turned out to be a big looser.
So you can understand that it is plain apathy ,nothing else.
I can give you hundreds of such examples ....literally.
That's why it is important to fight.

Since it is PIL it will be disposed off early may be in first hearing itself. So let us hope for the best.
There are only 8 inservice candidates .And number of recognised seats reduced is about 62.So the in sevice candidates do not explain reduction of all the seats.
What is the DMER stand about these seats ?
I am just fade up with calling up DMER people .
I feel we should go and meet DMER people personally and ask all our doubts face to face!.
I am here in Mumbai for next 3-4 days.
I will have to join BJ since 2'nd may.Anyone willing to accompany me to DMER.Let us decide quickly and do it !

they will come to know this within 4/5 days ,but will open the number of seats at the time of 2nd round only!!!!!!
