i know t fact tat only after 4 yr of fellowship training u r eligible 2 b board certified .So may b u have 2 do 2 diff fellowship 2 finish t 4 yrs requiremnet.
Without board certification u cant practise radiology in US or u have to go through radiology residency n t first place which is quite difficult 2 get into

Frankly i m not sure if i am t rite person 2 clear u r doubts. Pls do search for further info b4 u decide on ur future plans . I m telling based on wat one of t radiology PGs n my college did and t info i had got from him at tat point of time
And as far as stipend goes u get a healthy 58000-60000 dollars per year , more tan enough 2 live happily and so no spending from ur side 4 t four years of training . And as far as i know from my PG its worth t effort in investing those 4 yrs .

no reply??? i am confused atpresent about my future plans. basically i am interested in going to usa for academic and research in neuroradiology. i am not interested in getting high paied job like 4 lacs $ which radiologist usually gets. as md radiology from india is valid in usa and fellowships are easier as compared to residency in usa ..i am preparing for aipge . but i am stuck with this 4-5 fellowship requirement news. i have visited alots of websites of hospitals. all claim that their 1-2 year fellowship course is accredited and one will be able to sit in board exam after completion.

Hi! yes radiology in india is considered in US. you have to be ECFMG certified to apply for a fellowship in US. check out a little more detail here Only RxPG members can see links here! Register or Login! |

if you are planning a career in US radiology is better than dermatology. There is no scope for foreign grads in dermatology in US

what do you mean by 'considered'? Do you mean recognized? No degree outside of US will help you get a residency in US by it self. It may help you get more interviews because programs may be looking for applicants with some prior training.

with a MD radiodiagnosis & ECFMG certification, Is it possible to get a fellowship in us???? After the fellowship,is it possible to practice in US??
certainly one have to crack the fellowship interview prior to get into it....but tell me,Is it possible to get interview calls of such fellowship without having residency in radiology???
then how the MD degree is going to help???Is it by adding a clause of experience in the CV only??
Just want to know,Is there any way to practice in US after MD radio??
Any good informative suggestion is welcomed..site of RSNA is of no use...
waiting....................

1. It is possible to get a fellowship directly in US without residency in radiology. You need to be MD, DNB and the like plus good scores on all 3 steps and ECFMG certification.
2. MD degree will help because, they wont take into fellowship someone who has not finished post graduate radiology training
3.If you are on J1 visa(exchange scholar), you can look for a waiver job and thus do away with the 2 year home country return stipulation.
4. rare to get direct fellowship on H1 (employment visa) which does not require you to leave US for 2 years after finished
5. Interview calls are based on your effort to seek out such programs.
6. Radiologists like other specialties are doing extremely well. IR (interventional radiology) is huge, procedural and very rewarding. Other branches of radiology are doing well too

md radiology validity
1. The fellowship route existed 4 years back but is practically closed now. No point in going after it. People have spent 4 years on this route, nothing happened and had to enter residency now.
2. The md radiology from anywhere is not valid in usa. You have to do residency in radiology.
3. However, after md radio and clearing steps 1-3, you may do fellowships but no future in usa.
4. MD Radio will give you a chance to be called for interviews, but you have to match into prelimnary medicine or transitional year in addition to getting matched in radiology. Matching in both simultaneously is must. ACGME will not grant exceptions or waivers here. For a match, you need super scores, publications, fresh YOG, etc.
Hope this makes everything clear as on date. Please think carefully before starting preparation.

This route is closed now, it is confirmed by officials,'
But after usmle , you can still get radiology there,
And md radiology will count as work experience

You you have to clear USMLE steps and re-do your residency to be able to practice radiology in US.

For US you have to clear USMLE thats the fact. In other countries you can get in with a FRCR post MD radiology. However Asian and Gulf countries accept MD RD here!
