Dude relax.. do one thing
If you have lots of time for the exam, go for bailey - finish main topics from there.. prepare notes, revise .. you will never forget.. revise revise revise..
mix theory with practical exams - - don't duplicate your efforts. I'm telling you, if you read S Das surgical manual, you will easily clear surgery exam. including theory (with minor references )

Regarding SRB - srb has turned out to be an excellent book. It adds to your knowledge. But you need to revise a lot of times in order to reproduce it in the exam. I find srb the summary of all surgery text books.. uses more names of surgeries... deals with things briefly -- when done along with das manual or bailey.. its a winner.. it will see you through the theory exams.
SRB is much better than manipal text book (shenoy)

interesting reads
bailey and love is a mighty interesting read. I used to be damn scared of that book.. till I happened to read it!.

As far as surgery is concerned, you can pursur SRB or bailey. But I sowehow think that recalls are better with bailey.

Dont go for manipal manual unless you are desperate.

THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS . ACTUALLY STARTED WITH BAILEY AND LOVE BUT THEN BOUGHT SRB --IT IS A LUCRATIVE ONE -- SO GOT IN A DILEMMA . SRB HAS COME UP EITH YET ANOTHER BOOK FOR CLINICS - WILL BE RELEASED IN A WEEK . HAVE YOU PEOPLE CHECKED MAKHAN LAL SAHA --FOR CLINICAL SURGERY -- ? IT IS ALSO A GOOD ONE .

well i would recommend you only 3 books for surgery ::
1]bailey and love ..must and universally acceptable
2]s das manual of clinical surgery ...beautiful book
3] your notebook during clinics...most imp as far as pracs concerned

although u might find bailey difficult to start with its the best for understanding ...try to form a format usually common to most questions and their answers ..prepare notes and study

@ medicoaspirant
your idea is great but you know onething --- makhanlal has all the things that are said by teachers or learned from clinics .so can go on adding on to that . S.das is really nice it makes nice conceptual notes .

hey dr cure am also first yr --- i will suggest you to go for SRB , I wasted much time with Bailey -- that book is inadequate -- you need to take lots of foot notes .
