Canada
likely to ‘close doors for immigration’

The latest news on the Canadian Immigration front is that Canada
’s doors (for immigration) are on the verge of closing, while New Zealand
has already done that, according to a well-known Canadian consultant.
Also, there is a chance that the ‘pass marks’ needed to qualify for Canadian immigration is expected to change from the currently set 67 points. Therefore, the emphasis was now to make complete and proper applications without delay, the consultant has advised.
“Last December, New Zealand
passed new legislation, which virtually rules out Asian Gulf
expatriates. Also, the AGCC and ‘home country’ experience is no longer recognised. All applicants need a job offer in the ‘right job’, Brian Telfer, managing director of ISIS International Management Consultants, who will be in town today and tomorrow at Muscat InterContinental Hotel, said.
“Unscrupulous consultants are offering job offers but unless it’s a genuine job, no points will be awarded,” he noted.
The New Zealand
consulate in Dubai refuses most AGCC expatriates’ visit visas to go to New Zealand
in search of a job. “So to all intents and purposes New Zealand
has introduced a selection criteria, which is very similar to Australia
’s “all white” immigration policy of the 1950s and 1960s,” Brian said.
“Canada
by lowering the pass mark has achieved its goal of encouraging large numbers of immigration applications. Delhi is receiving more applications in a week than the previous year.
“In Muscat, the British Council is renting rooms at Muscat InterContinental Hotel to accommodate the rush of applicants to take the English Test (IELTS
). But, over 80 per cent of applicants fail IELTS
due to lack of preparation, nevertheless, worldwide those passing IELTS
and reaching the 67 points pass mark is fast approaching the quota Canada
has set,” Brian said.
New immigration minister Judy Sgro will be reviewing the numbers, so a pass mark change is expected shortly, he noted.
“Applications who delay will obviously lose their chance. Unfortunately rushing an incomplete submission is not acceptable under the new Immigration Act, the embassy will either return or refuse such applications,” he noted.

One question to all.
By becoming landed immigrant you can get into Canada
. But then what about professionally? Are there any gaurantees or job assurity from the government? What will doctors do if they cannot practice their trade?
Sell pizza like so many others before us, maybe.
Chew on it, buddies.

Quite right dear Nagu, no one would like to sell Pizzas, but you have to take the challenge in your new adventure. We can't be cowed by difficulties.
It is tough, but not difficult. Try it.

You know, Samson buddy, I have news for you.
I was under the inmpression that DNB
and then after that MRCP
from UK would be the best thing to do to work in Canada
.
I am from Canada
but I have been here in India just to do the above. Guess why? Becos we are not getting any residency posts there.
Our MBBS and any training from India is not recognised.
Now I found that even after doing DNB
and MRCP
what they look at is, "have you trained abroad". And that my dear friend is what they want.
I have checked with the University and with Royal college. You will be one among 300-500 candidates for a given post. If you are lucky, good for you. If not????????
Giving up is something I do not suggest, Samson. But I know since I come from there that there are no gaurantees.
Instead, go to places like South Africa and do your PG there and believe me, my friend, you will be welcomed with open arms in Canada
to work.
SA is a great country and I know for sure that you get the best hands-on experience there.
Hope this helps.

Rules are changing
Check with the licensing authorities. Pretty soon grduates from South Africa wouldn't be allowed to work as GP in rural areas. They have to go through the same procedures as other IMG's. Canada
is becoming more strict on foreign trained doctors and slowing closing doors for immigrants who are foreign trained doctors.

Hi IMG,
I think I have replied to your other post just now.
Once again do let me know where to look or whom to contact for info and believe me it will help me and lots of others who are interested in getting into Canada
for either practicing Medicine or for doing Post graduation.
Thanx.
