hi rakhi,

i checked dutta pg no 88--it says .....posterior fontanelle floor is membranous and b'comes bony before term.......icon_confused.gif icon_confused.gif


well checked BDC Anatomy ---pg 309(head neck brain)says anterior fontanelle closes -18 months
................posterior and sphenoid fontanelle-b/w 2nd and 3rd month of life...........mastoid fontanelle by 12 months:? icon_confused.gif

doesn't fit in any of ur options


but yes one more thing i found BDC pg 7 ........says the posterolateral fontanelle closes by the end of frst year.....

searched web everywhere its given around two months...........none of the options match...


but if i consider that u mentioned" fonatanelles" and not just fontanelle.......then considering the closure of posterolateral fontanelle as well ......i assume the answer to b option 1

PF closes by the end of 1yr...its said that PF closes few months before AF

AF by 9 - 18 months

there are 6 fontanelles @ birth.

largest is AF. It overlies the SUPERIOR SAGITTAL DURAL VENOUS SINUS..which transmitts its pulsations to the overlying skin

wats the ans??

its the only option which is close to the correct ans...anyways its not 3yrs


ref :chaurasia 3rd edn pg: no 309

AF by 18 month of life

PF & SF b/w the 2nd & 3rd month

MF by 12th month


also SARP series gives the same ans..Hope confusion is over..
.may b instead of giving months they gave years
