How is the job situation for GP's in U.K.? I have recently cleared PLAB1 & my main aim is to get in to general practice.

the main thing is if anyone from overseas wants to stay here in uk, they should be in either Psychiatry ,gp or Anaesthesia .gp is the easiest way to stay in here and after 3 year gpvts rotation u can practice as a gp, and with new contract coming in 2006, u can opt to work in the most flexible way and u can earn the same or more than any consultant within 3 years.In England 2 times gp rotations are advertised and we have to apply for each deanery seperately, whereas in scotland it is advertised only once that is in november for the next year august rotations,this year it is advertised this weeks bmj, there are 126 rotations and the last year many asians are shortlisted and selected for scotland gpvts,(scots are very friendly),so i will advise all who had passed PLAB part 2 to apply for these rotations as previous uk experience is not a prerequisite for selection to scotland gpvts.,any advise u can ask me,, by the way i am in one of scotland gpvts rotation.

If you are a GP in UK Or a soon to be..... you coudn't have asked for better days!

GP's in UK are in the best position today. High Salaries sometimes better than consultants, flexible working hours and many other benefits.
GP locums are sometimes paid upto £100 an hour!

But getting into GP training isn't easy.
With thousands of jobless overseas doctors in UK.... every second person passing PLAB applies for GP VTS.
Now some deaneries they have introduced an mcq exam.
And they have day long interviews testing you in various ways.

Nevertheless it is definitely worth giving a try... and if you do get in the GP VTS.... consider yourself blessed and celebrate.

hi, i want you to ask one question regarding gp training.. as i have passed my plab2 in november and i also intrested in gp so i wanted to know that as now rele has been changed about training in uk after foundation progrmme so can i apply for gpvts now without doing F2 as i did my PRHO(internship),can u plz reply me soon... thnks.....

From Aug 2007.. for GP training/ST1 ... priority will be given to those completing FY2.

It is best to complete FY2 before considering GP training or any speciality training for that matter.
