To prepare for NIMHANS
, you will have to be really harsh on yourself. Get any Psychiatry
MCQ book (preferably Omkarnath; A book by Ahuja containing 1000 mcqs is also available). Then go topic-wise. For example - you may start with "Psychotic disorders". Attempt the MCQs on that topic , then you will have to do the text reading, so that you know exactly what is required in the entrance. You may have to sort out the MCQs topic-wise.
One important thing , find the "Synopsis of Psychiatry
by Kaplan and Sadock ", and read the initial chapters on the basis of Psychiatry
. It will help you solve many many queries.
Then one revision at least, is necessary

i agree wth vishal tht there seems to b very little info abt 5 yr course ...i hav 2 more queries-
1) i am told tht during interview there is a palpable bias towards candidiates frm south and no one can object as marks r nevr declared. to wht extent is this true?
2) also tht there is very little cutting tht one gets bcoz most of the cases r handled by the consultants. is this also true?
thanks in anticipation of knowledgeable replies.

,soo i think discrimintaion n influnce is required to get into NIMHANS

i think there seems to be a lot of speculation regarding the NIMHANS
entrance.let me clarify a few issues.
yes there used to be an interview for entry to the institute and a lot of eyebrows wer raised regarding the bias but u dont have to worry now...bcos since the last year the entrance is purely merit based...u get a rank,u get in..thats it.
yes its also true that very little is known bout the syllabus for the exam...but here,s some info which has been given to me by some of my friends who took the exam last year and this year too...they told me that there r enuff questions from all the subjects but yes there is a little stress on neurology and Psychiatry
...but that is understood.the rest of the questions are standard like the ones u find in ashish and mudit.
i hope i have put to rest quite some many doubts...
im preparing for the exam myself so if there are any more doubts pls let me know so we can help others aspiring to get into this great institute...all the best guys !!!!
