Hello friends!
Which book to study is quite difficult to decide.
My friend who passed his MRCS
exam in April sitting he read from following sources.
BRS Physiology
BRS Pathology
Snells Review for Anatomy
Nettler's Atlas
Another friend of mine sat for exam he read :
1. RCS Eng Course Manual by Kirk
2. Raftery Applied Science for Basic Surgical Training
3. Pastest Books , Core and System Modules Revision Guides
4. some 7-8 different books on MCQS (old style)
Mokbel
Chatrath & rahim
B. Al Ghananeim & I s Benjamin
Hornick Lumley
AFRCS MCQS by RCSEd
I am not sure which books to follow. But in the same forum i read the following:
text book(Anatomy
i used coloured atlas only i found studying from LAST difficult, this atlas named ATLAS OF HUMAN Anatomy
by INDERBIR SINGH , JAYPEE , INDIA and i used for Pathology
the applied basic science book and for Physiology
( a concised book for Physiology
for dental students named:ATEXT BOOK OF Physiology
FOR DENTAL STUDENTS BY R. K MARYA , INDIA.
for MCQs i used pastest series for basic sciences it was very useful and mcq book of applied basic science of A. RAFTERY by S. JACOB and R.C.SAMUEL.
THAT IS ALL, I CONCENTRATED ON THESE SOURCES VERY WELL AND I USED THE MATERIAL IN SURGICAL TOTUR WEBSITE AND I PASSED FROM FIRST ATTEMPT, HOPING YOU W,LL DO IT
FOR STUDYING ADVICE : STUDY SLOWLY , DIGEST THE FACTS WELL, DO NOT LET EVEN ANY FACT WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING IT, CRYSTALLISE THE FACTS IN YOUR MIND, AND TRUST YOUR SELF . applied basic sciences for basic surgical training by raftery, good coulered atlas for Anatomy
,one revision book for Physiology
if you can get named text book of Physiology
for dental students by r.k.marya
So so many sayings , i hope you could decide yourself & hope who already took & passsed MRCS
1 will reply.
regards!

Hi everybody.... I took the April MRCS
1 exam as well but unfortunately fell short of 4 marks from the passing score.... What I experienced in the exam was that you don't really need to go through the lenghthy text books...especially for surgery.... just go for books like BRS Physiology
and Applied Basic Sciences by Raftery which does cover most of the basic sciences that are required for the exam Plus do lots of mcqs esp the pastest core module.....but make sure u do these thoroughly. I just went through the same for 10 days...had i been more thorough...things wud have worked for me. All the best!!
