A liquid ventilated lung compared to a gas ventilated lung :
One answer only.
a) Has reduced airway resistance
b) Has pronounced hysteresis
c) Is more compliant
d) Requires greater pressure to inflate
e)Has increased residual volume

the only clue i am working on here is zero surface tension with a liquid ventilated lung............what next? icon_rolleyes.gif

Hysteresis does occur with a liq lung but only initially,
It is definitely less compliant, but has not much need for compliance in order to maintain the work of breathing,
Again, it needs less pressure to inflate, as it functions at a higher inflated level,
Airway resistance to liquid is more than that of air, on account of higher sp gr and proportionately lower flow dynamics
THUS , A LIQUID VENTILATED LUNG OBVIOUSLY THRIVES ON AN INCREASED RESIDUAL VOLUME.

EVER SEEN THAT MOVIE .....THE ABYSSS.....!!

i also think it s E.

reason-
inspiration is an active process ,expiration is passive by elastic recoil-so work done for both fluids is the same ....
but specific gravity of liquid wd be more ...
so for equal vol to be expired more work needs to be done .....

that wd imply at the end of two expirations vol of liquid retained wd be more ...
hence greater residual volume ..

any contradictions ,most welcome.....
