don't worry
hi fella, well finally after all hue and cry you have entered one of the most auspicious professions in this world.you must feel proud of yourself.you indeed have done a very hard work to get here(at least think like this).you should not worry too much now as there is a long long road to go my dear. this is just beginning.first of all,be calm, settle yourself and look around .you should feel so special to be here.don't worry about studies too much ,you would catch up in no time.this is the only time in life (hostel life)where you can have all the fun.think of it,there are no parents around,no siblings you indeed is an independent creature who can fly (think like that for once).make new friends, hang out with them,go for movies.ineteract with your seniors . get to know them, they would help you all through your mbbs .you had done so much hard work to get here so it's the time to cash it a lil bit.this is like reward.i am a post mbbs now and i miss so much my hostel life and my friends .oh boy those were the days!!. get the maximum out of these 5 and a half years.(be it academic, hostel life).you would only miss these days .live it dear.and now regarding academics, you must be attending lectures and practicals (dissection hall, physio lab, biochem lab).try to attend every lecture and practical esp dissection hall(for both attendance purpose and to learn).self study is utmost in college life.1) for physiology try to read as much as guyton (most basic book for concepts).you can leave central nervous system from it as it is quite hectic rest is so essential that if you don read you would be a dumb student all through your mbbs and further. physiology makes the basis of functioning of human body.try to make concepts right from the 1st year and would be a winner and try to bought one more book for physiology and that is linda costanzo physiology textbook.this book is so well written.it is a bit costly but full of concepts.keep this book with guyton always.wou would shine in physiology. 2) for anatomy , b d chaurasia (just try to memorize it as much as you can). 3) for biochem do not buy other than lippincott's illustrated biochemistry (that's all and sufficient you'll ever need). in first year try to study with understanding things.do not cram things now there is a long way to go.try to correlate between different subjects whatever you study.read between the lines.take help from good seniors.make notes if u want to .if you read 3-4 hours on everyday basis that would be sufficient.mbbs is not an easy branch ,you got to work on it everyday besides fun and all.if you make balance of everything in life you won't get depress .

ok
to tell you dear,we can talk about general planning here and you can modify it accordingly to personalize it. i don know about you but i don take naps in afternoon, so if you have this habit of taking naps at afternoon make it like maximum 1 hour to refresh yourself and then after tea in evening you can start with physio ,anatomy or bchem whatever you like.the most important thing here is to emphasize on the basic concepts in physiology and bchem because those would always help you become a better doctor.it's not like passing exams and taking a degree in medical exams would make you a good doctor.a good doctor is one who is trained very professionally in skills and academics.knowledge is everything .without knowledge you can't improve your skills or make any decision.a great physician ,sir william osler once said "He who studies medicine without books sails an uncharted sea, but he who studies medicine without patients does not go to sea at all."try to understand things right now and develop to correlate things would lead you to zenith of medical science otherwise you would be just another graduate.ask yourself why and how this is happening .why and how must be two basic entities for a medical science student.well there are subjects in medical science where you got to gulp as such and to retain them is a herculean task but things which you can understand now certainly gonna help you .for example start to understand the "action potential".this topic carries huge application widespread in physiology ,pathology, pharmacology, medicine and literally sometimes even after completing mbbs students are confused about it.its really tough and easy both in its own sense.try to grasp this topic from guyton and linda costanzo physiology.after nerve potential go deep into muscular physiology ,contraction mechanism ,reflex arc etc.then cardiovascular and go on. what i want to say that its 1st so don mug up things.don listen to those who says about mugging up.build your concepts.try to learn from our mistakes.CVS,RENAL,RESPI,ENDO are a must from guyton. in biochemistry read as much as lippincott's biochemistry.it's a very fine book .i love this book.so easy to understand and ya indian authors are not considered at par with their foreign counterparts except a few like b d chaurasia ,k d tripathi,o p ghai ,dutta, parks. so try to read from european authors as much as possible for a better future.try to avoid indian authors as much as possible regarding medical science.read standard books always.learn to make notes, flow charts. regarding your schedule if you read 1.5 hours physio,1 hr anatomy and 1 hr bchem daily then you can achieve everything you want to be.you would pass with flying colors and with knowledge too and ya make friends ,hang out with them,go for movies ,make frequent trips and do whatever suits you without hurting anybody.live hostel life to the fullest. and i would love to help you as your senior.best of luck.have fun

thanks a lot.....i was in total confusion when a month in medicl colag passed away....studied nothing...no idea about anything ...but your replies gives me hope n confidence....again thanks a lot....is there any importance to first year results in future?some friends told me dat its only for promotion to 2ndyear.if it's true i think its better to concentrate on building concepts rather than scoring mark.otherwise hav 2 giv some importanc to scoring marks also....

hi
see as a rule of thumb for passing exams there are 10 years available and you can mark important topics from those papers and learn by heart 2 months for exams .generally if you study well for whole passing would not be difficult but keep one thing in mind try to set a score of around 60 percent in every year proff or sem (whichever system your college follows) because in post graduation they ask for 55 percent and in doing research or something good they ask for 60 %.so marks are damn important too. you can't ignore them.in my college it was very difficult to get above 60 .so my opinion to you is study with concepts and all and then 2 months before exams change your policy and do 10 years over and over for getting good marks too.60 is a very decent regarding mbbs but you can't sacrifice you basics in lieu of passing exams.if you are a regular student in mbbs there is literally no any problem in passing.just change your strategy 2 months before exams.ok

you first try to concentrate on basics.ganang book for physiology, harper for bichemistry and gray`s student anatomy for anatomy. follow the dissection carefully.attend all the classes regularly.
