no..you need to be paid first...ask inland revenue..at your nearest CAB/Job centre

yes irs is right , u need to have a salary. Then ask ur medical staffing, they usually have the required form , all u need is to fill it out and post it. Incase u r paid and don't have NI number even then u would have noticed that ur payslip has NI deduction, once u get a number all those deductions are then transferred against ur number.
But would like to ask whats the difference between NI and tax , isn't it another form o tax. What benefit does it gives us?

what if we get a locum for a very small period say 2-3 days in that case can we get a ni number. icon_question.gif

no need ni number for locums etc. you can apply ni number as soon as you get a job. call ur local socal security office. it is no big deal atall.
