Flouting all admission rules and regulations laid by the Medical Council of India, a doctor who failed to muster the required percentage to get admission into the MD/MS/Diploma course has been admitted to the PG course at RIMS.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express a well placed source said that the doctor was admitted to the post graduate course at RIMS though he had failed to secure the qualifying marks in the entrance examination.
The admission notice (MD Pathology
) was issued by RIMS authority on May 18 and the doctor in question is a nominee from Sikkim.
On April 4 this year, the entrance examination for undergoing post graduate courses was held and only three nominees from Sikkim had made the cut, said the source.
The doctors are Dr Dwarika Nironla (Medicine), Dr Chandra Samsher Rai (ENT
) and Dr Dilli Deokota (Obst and Gynae
).
The quota for Sikkim is 7 seats in the post graduate courses and since only three had qualified, four seats were still vacant.
According to admission rules, a general candidate will have to secure at least 50 percent to undergo the PG courses while ST/SC candidates have to score 40 percent.
Rules also stipulate that there will be no re-evaluation of answer scripts.
The last date for admission to the PG courses was April 30 and classes began from May.
However the admission notice of the doctor who did not get through the entrance examination was issued only on May 18 and the last date was fixed on May 21, said the source further.
Subsequently the said doctor has been admitted to the PG course in Pathology
.

Reacting to the news report which appeared on the May 23 under the caption, ‘Failed doc’ admitted to RIMS PG course, the RIMS authority has issued a statement today refuting the contents of the story.
A statement issued by the Media Advisor of RIMS today said that the doctor in question, DR TW Bhutia, is a nominee of Sikkim Govt and he appeared for the admission test to PG Course (Pathology
) on April 4 this year.
The result was issued the same day but his name did not appear in the list of successful candidates.
Dr Bhutia then submitted a written representation to RIMS authority on April 17 requesting for a review of his answer script.
Accordingly a re-evaluation committee was formed on May 15 to re-evaluate the answer script of Dr Bhutia, said the statement adding that Prof Hoping Vashum, HoD of Surgery, and Prof M Kulachandra of Medicine were on the committee.
The re-evaluation committee found that there were certain over sights in awarding marks to Dr Bhutia and after necessary rectification, the candidate secured 344 marks out of 400 which qualified him to undergo the PG course.
However the rules and regulations of PG entrance examination issued by RIMS this year clearly states "there will be no rechecking/re-evaluation of the answer scripts”.
The rules also say, "It may be noted that the Institute does not issue or supply or intimate the marks/ranks of unsuccessful candidates and no correspondence of this matter (sic) will be entertained”.

sikkim is very small state in the north east region of indiawith a population of 4.5 lakhs....it was an independent kingdom until india took over it in 1975.
sikkim was inducted into the council of north eastern sates in 2004...so thats how sikkim got the 7 seats in post graduate programme in rims.
sikkim does not have it's own medical college unlike all the other lucky states of india....so we take whatever the india govt gives ....(if they were not willing to give then maybe china would have given us better seats)
when the seats for the year 2004 was announced it came as total surprise..i mean no one was really prepared for it...the doctors who went to give the exams were very senior medical officers who were posted in the primary health centers for nearly 7 to 8 years....i think 7 to 8 years is quite a long time to forget the required amount of facts to pass an entrance examination.
sikkim as i have already stated is avery small state where evryone kinda knows everyone(if u come and live in gangtok for 2 years then u will know what i am talkin about).....so, most of the people in sikkim know all the doctors whose names are mentioned in the above article....and it would be pretty embarrassing to read this.....so i reaquest you to please remove this from the forum
...no offence
