ya sir, agreed that "SOME DEGREE OF EFFUSION"( QUOTE FROM DHINGRA) occurs in the first stage of ASOM
Hope u don't mind but then its just a symptom caused due to simillar situation that is tubal block causing negative pr. in middle ear.

symptoms overlap in so many diseases. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO NAME: SEROUS OTITIS MEDIA/ SECRETORY OM/ MUCOID OM/ GLUE EAR/ NON SUPPURATIVE OM amd OM WITH EFFUSION --ALL MEAN THE SAME( ACCORDING TO ALL THE BOOKS)

moreover, unresolved ASOM is one of the cause of serous om and in serous om there is no suppuration due to bact. infn but thats the main aspect of ASOM.
moreover there is anple controversy regarding thefirst stage of ASOM as most books other than dhingra and teachers in our college believe that tubal occlution( where u find the effusion) is not the first stage of asom. its wrong. the first stage is Hyperemia and congestion due to invasion of bact. through the ET .( its right because if the tube is indeed blocked by the adenoids or something how do the bact enter the M.E.--- it would rather give rise to serous otitis media and ASOM is not a sequele of serous OM( see dhingra) so how can the stage of tubal block progress to the subsequent stages of exudation and suppuration)

hope this long information helps. icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

though this has nothing to do with the Q asked in the thread. the ans ( according to me)remains the same as i mentioned earlier.
thanks.
