Imagine two tests

Test 1 : positive if blood sugar more than 80
Test 2 : positive if blood sugar more than 180

What test will you use to Exclude (rule out) Diabetes

well,

a negative Test 1 shd be appropriate to rule out the presence of diabetes.

and,a positive Test 2 to confirm its existence.

hey what about this one:
Blood specimen for neonatal thyroid screening is obtained on:
1. Cord blood.
2. 24 hours after birth.
3. 48 hours after birth.
4. 72 hours after birth.

harrison and nelson says heel prick...doesnt specify the exact time...and ghai says cord blood....park 17th says cord blood for IDD, a journal from thyrocare says about 36-72 hours....
now what is the answer?????

ya the answer is senstivity.

the confusion is because in park speceficity defination says
"ability of the test to identify those who do not have the disease"
but taking the same parks 90% case lets take a tesdt whose senstivity is 90% A and 1 whose specificity is 90% as B

if there r 100 subjects and 20 affected.

a wil give 18+ and 82-
b wil give 23+ and 77 -

of teh excluded (-) subjects ... all excluded from test b wont have disease.
and 2 excluded from a wil have a disease.

so teh answer is sensitivity.
