Words from Harri 15th ed:
" lack of circumcision has been strongly associated with a higher risk of HIV infection in certain cohorts. This difference may be due to increased susceptibility of uncircumcised men to ulcerative STDs, as well as other factors such as microtrauma. In addition, the moist environment under the foreskin may promote the presence or persistence of microbial flora which, via inflammatory changes, may lead to higher concentrations of target cells for HIV in the foreskin. Some studies suggest that only circumcision performed before age 20 is associated with a reduced risk of HIV infection. Thus, in certain cases, these phenomena can also be considered as cofactors for HIV transmission"
