As first year is the beginning, it is very essential to learn good concepts. So the following books will help if you're studying in India.
For anatomy - chaurasia is enough. It's adequate for exams and provides decent concepts. If time permits, you can go for grays anatomy.

For physiology - please read any of the Indian authors for exam sake and read Guyton for good concepts.

For biochem - either sathyanarayan or vasudevan is enough.

Hope this was helpful.

Medical sciences is interesting. As long as you learn Anatomy Physiology and Biochemistry from an Applied point of view you shall do well. Intelligence does not matter as much as (daily) persistance and sincerity. Grants illustrated anatomy ,Ganong Physiology and Harper are excellent books. Studying international books improves your English expression and aids to preparing for foreign degrees in the future.
All the best.

in the 1st year, you have to thank God first for giving you thus opportunity to be a part of this noble proffession. Concentrate on your studies, and try to study regularly for 3-4hrs daily. Remember, first year is the foundation stone of al ur clinical career. whatever you'll study in anatomy and physiology, will permeate deep into ur heart & will help u in understanding easily the para- & clinicals.
dont forget to enjoy & celebrate...bcoz you'll hv to study for whole of ur clinical career. so, start learning how to celebrate more in less time. icon_wink.gif
study standard text books both for exams and for other purposes...no shorcut regarding this.
dont under-estimate any of your teachers, as they are your seniors and guides.
Discuss with ur frendz, about topics u dont understand.
dont think of pg enterance exams in first year. just make ur basics strong.

HI IN FIRST YEAR WE ALL GET PUZZED HOW TO GET COPE UP WITH SUBJECTS!! AS ITS A LOT TO READ AND REMEMBER!!.. HERE IS A STEP WISE APPROACH IN STUDIES!!
THE FOREMOST THING IS CHOOSING THE WRIGHT BOOK...
ITS NOT THE ONE BOOK U SHOULD FOLLOW
YOU SHOULD KEEP ONE BOOK FOR COMPLETE READING AND OTHERS FOR REFERENCE.

I RECOMMEND!! AND
MOST OF THE GOOD PROFESSORS AND SENIORS RECOMMEND!!
FOR ANATOMY; CHAURASIA MUST!! REFERENCE:GRAYS ANATOMY AND SNELLS ANATOMY
PHYSIOLOGY: GANONG MUST AND ENOUGH UNLESS U WANNA CLINICAL SORT OF POINTS REFER HARRISON!!
BIOCHEMISTRY:VASUDEVAN?PANKAJ NAIK

THATS IT!! JUST BE SINCERE IN YOUR PREPARATIONS FOR WEEKEND TESTS YOU CAN COVER IT ALL..
ALL THE BEST

gypusa

Is there anyone else here who studied anatomy from AK Datta?

Dr_s_khatod

Bdc is enough for anatomy. But keep ur atlus near for reference.

For physio - Ak jain is good option. But read the general physio & electrophysiology concepts from gyton.
To keep ur base strong.

For bioc- satyanaryan is enough

do it based on what you need to know:

1. basic biology textbook
2. basic physiology textbook
3. basic anatomy textbook
4. basic pathology textbook
and most importantly:
5. basic clinical examination textbook.

that last one is most useful as it is practical skills you will need to use later.

I am about to enter college and am at loose ends right now. I seriously want to start my preparations for my first year. Can someone please tell me topics I need to complete before entering college to take a high ground?
From all the things I am reading I am dead scared, so give some useful suggestions as to how I need to prepare myself before entering college.

Chaurasia,Guyton n Vasudevan is good enough.

Cunningham's Manual of Practical Anatomy
