A Aortic injury
B Bladder injury
C Bowel perforation
D Duodenal injury
E Hepatic injury
F Pancreatic injury
G Renal injury
H Rupture of the diaphragm
I Splenic injury
J Testicular injury
K Urethral injury
For each patient below, choose the SINGLE most likely diagnosis from the
above list of options. Each option may be used once, more than once or
not at all.

1. A 25-year-old man sustains a stab wound below his right nipple. He is
hypotensive. His chest X-ray is normal and, apart from the wound, there
is no clinical sign of chest injury.

2. A 35-year-old man had fallen 15 feet off a ladder, landing on to his left
side. X-rays revealed fractures of his left 8th and 9th ribs laterally. He
was prescribed analgesia and discharged from the hospital. He returns to
the department today, 10 days after the incident, with pain in his left
shoulder tip and hypotension.

3. A 40-year-old man sustained a pelvic fracture. He has blood at the
urethral meatus and extensive scrotal and perineal bruising. Rectal
examination reveals a high-riding prostate.

4. A 20-year-old man sustained blunt trauma to his abdomen. A
nasogastric tube was sited. A chest X-ray revealed elevation of the left
diaphragm with the end of the nasogastric tube in the left hemithorax.

5. A heavy metal beam fell onto the back of a 25-year-old man at work.
X-rays of his lumbar spine show fractures in the transverse processes of
L2 and L3 on the left side. He also has haematuria.
