I have done my MS Orthopaedics and have cleared my MRCS 1, would be giving my MRCS 2 in September. Would like to know if I clear all parts of MRCS In India , would I be entitled to get MRCS degree/diploma? I dont have the BSS CERTIFICATE and all my basic surgical training is in INDIA and that too in Orthopaedics and in A&E.

The Royal College of Surgeons of England have listed out the criteria for the Eligibility for the award of the Diploma...
which includes the BSS course and 24 months of training in 4 different specialities apart from other requirements.

So dear as far as RCS Eng is concerened you will need more training and have to do the course to get the MRCS diploma.

You may contact the other colleges to know if they are giving any concessions (which is less likely).
And there is nothing as 'MRCS Degree'.

HELLO!
I HAVE PASSED MRCS PART 1 IN APR.05 & STARTED TRAINING. BUT I HAVE SOME QUERY REGARDING TRAINING.
1. IS THERE ANY 'LOG BOOK' THAT RECORDS ALL THE WORKS I AM DOING DURING TRAINING PERIOD?
2. IS IT SHOULD BE UNDER GUIDENCE OF ANY FRCS/MRCS SURGEON?

Yes there is a log book and it is available on the Royal College of Surgeons website.

Under the guidance of the consultant who is responsible for your training and supervision.

International qualification and experience would be assessed on an individual basis and would be considered for CCBST

Quick Scroll Is log book mandatory? 06.20.05 (3 years ago) #7

Wanted a clarification : is log book needed in new intercollegiate MRCS ? Was under impression that it went out with old style collegiate MRCS exams. Let me know if I am wrong.

Also, the intercollegiate MRCS does not mention any mandatory BSS. It only mentions that BST should be started before part 2 and preferably completed before part 3.

You are probably talking of eligibility for taking the intercollegiate MRCS exams. The log book was required for the old-style collegiate MRCS final assessment in Surgery in General.
Log book and BSS are not required for taking the intercollegiate MRCS exams.

But..
Log book is a must for the CCBST... Certificate of Completion of Basic Surgical Training.
BSS is mandatory for the CCBST.

And for the award of the MRCS Diploma you would have to be approved for membership by the relevant college council.

Quick Scroll Thanks for clarification 06.21.05 (3 years ago) #9

Thanks. Have a new doubt - is the logbook reqd for the BST the same as the old RCSEd logbook or is there a newer one?

Reason i'm asking is that i have recently done pg (DNB in gen surg) and wanted to find out if i can apply for the CCBST before giving the MRCS exams.

Also, is mumbai the only place where BSS is conducted in india?

Hope you reply as promptly as last time.

I am not sure if the new logbook is the same as the old one... but the new logbook is available on the website and you may check/compare it.
Even if it is not the same, but your logbook was current when you started your training ... they will accept it.

You cannot apply for CCBST before the MRCS exams... you will have to complete all the parts of the exam and other formalities before you can apply for the CCBST.

No idea about the venues for the BSS course in India.

All the best.
