FAQ: What are the Career Options in Australia
after MBBS?

Dear Friends
Im a M.B.B.S graduate from India ( Bangalore)....i finished my internship last month.I would like to do my further studies in Australia
.I gathered a lot of info from this site but i still have some doubts.....Id b glad if ul cud help.
I have got admission into Univ of Wollongong & Queensland univ,Brisbane....for MPH...Master of Public health......for the feb 2006 sem.I chose this cos i was told that most docs take this route n give AMC in the mean time.But i wanna b sure of that.
AM I ALLOWED TO GIVE THE AMC EXAM WHILE IM DOING MPH???
WHICH OTHER ROUTE IS ADVISABLE??
WHICH IS THE ROUTE TAKEN USUALLY?
Im gonna be working as Jr.Resident in MICU for 6 months....til Dec/Jan.So that will be the only work exp il have.WILL 6 MONTHS WORK EXP B SUFFICIENT TO APPLY FOR 'AREA OF NEED 'POST???
I wanna get to Australia
by Jan/Feb atleast.Kindly advice.Hoping to hear from ul soon.THANKS.

u can giv AMC while doin MPH.Other route for u wud b clearin AMC.6mths is not enuff to get AON job.

as fr the usual route,every1 i know who has nythn to do with medicine in oz take the amc mcq exam followed by the clinical.....it seems dng the mph is taking the road less travelled...it also wrks out to be n expensive proposition..
though u can easily give ut amc while studying mph...
6 mnths of wrk ex isn good enuf as they ask fr a min of 3 yrs fr an aon job..
go ahead n do ur stint in micu-ny ex will improve ur C.V especially the emergency depts...
as fr getn to oz by jan-feb-both mph n amc will do that..it's fr u to decide which one to tkae up..

good to hear that u too writing march`06 amc exam . guess both of us share the nest. even i ve applied for mph route but in the end figured out that it don`t add up for ur points in getting pr, so no meaning doing such an investment. i`m from 99 batch and `ll be completg my internship in another mth. got the books and applied for preliminnary form. if u re really serious we can work together. i`m from delhi, india.

Dear Friends,
Thanx a lot for replying.So i gather that MPH isn a good option......I def wanna give the AMC soon....n im glad i found company...MAVE ...in the same boat .
Mave,how did u get the books???Do u get to buy it here in India?N how did u apply for the preliminary form?So when r u leaving to Australia
?It works out cheaper to go 2 aust jus to give the exam is it?Cud u pls write to me how to go about it?I would be glad to work together.Reply soon.

Whats wrong??haven heard from ul!!!
Kriti, i jus heard that to give AMC exam u need to get within 10 ranks or else u r allowed to reappear only after 2 yrs.Is it so??? Is the exam that tough??Im losing hope now...
Mave, i also heard that doing MPH in a RURAL univ...can fetch u 5 pts for the PR.Does Wollongong come under a rural area???
Pls write when free.

within 10 ranks of what??
u don need to have any rank as far as giving the exam is concerned...the mcq step 1 ie...u jus need to dhow that ur done with mbbs n internship..
fr the clinical ie step 2 of amc u need to have passed mcq step 1...n fr that u need to have a min of 50% in non emergency qs n 60% in emergency qs...they take it on a percentile basis...n if u flunk step1 them u can't retake the exam fr 3 months..eg. if u flunk in july u can't apply fr sep but only fr nov...
so don lose hope right at the beginning...the best of us have gone thru the worst...
the higher the score u get in amc exams the better it will hold u in stead fr ur future job opportunities..
am not sure bou the point system so herz hopin som1 else answers that fr u..

hi there,
I am in sydney and did MPH from uni of wollongong. Now I am australian citizen. You can give AMC any number of times you want to.
and you can also appear for AMC while you are in Australia
. No matter whether you are a student or visitor or citizen. after 1 july 2005, you should have at least 7.0 in IELTS
in all module.

Hi ahsanijaz,
Could you tell me which route you took for applying for your citizenship? Was is after you took MPH (that means us had student visa before )and then applied after you got the degree using the migration point system??? or was it tottaly through another route??? Please enlighten us more...  Could you also tell the fees structure for MPH at wollongong and how much was you monthly expense (rough estimate)....thanks man....cherio
