Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening syndrome featuring hypotension, bronchospasm, angioedema and upper airway obstruction /collapse.
If it occurs as a direct result of mast cell stimulation (without IgE production), it is called ‘anaphylactoid’. Tryptase levels rise with mast cell activation
urtricaria is well circumscribed areas of oedema, erythema and itching in the dermis(wheals). Angioedema is considered a more serious form of urtricaria


Anaphylaxis caused by insect bites, food allergies, latex allergy, NSAIDS, aspirin,
ACE-i can cause anaphylactic reaction and would need to be discontinued if they do.

Adrenaline dose- 0.5 ml 1:1000 IM

Hereditary angioneurotic edema is a C-1 esterase deficiency-Spontaneous complement activation. Oedema of skin and mucosal surfaces. Abdominal pain is due to bowel oedema.

Urticaria Pigmentosa- rash due to collection of masts cell in the skin . If you scratch the rash , a linear wheal appears -Dariers sign
