all the following are true about herd immunity for infectious diseases except-
it provides group protection beyond what is provided by immunisatn of single individuals.
2.it is more likely for infections that do not have subclinical phase.
3.in the case of tetanus it does not protect the individual.

i strongly disagree.......3 is right...tetanus is the infectious disease where herd immunity is not protective...........( park ref)

2 is false........ now if we take any such disease then (like measles) the number of people of a community affected due to being exposed to agent depends largely on herd immunity....

i am saying 2 is false for same reason what u ve written shardul.

with yr quote it seemed u too consider 2 as false .
3 is def false --this is the reason for that aditi--

If enough people in a community are immunised against certain diseases, then it is more difficult for that disease to get passed between those who aren't immunised.

This is known as herd immunity.

Herd immunity does not apply to all diseases because they are not all passed on from person to person. For example, tetanus can only be caught from spores in the ground.

so that way --if i am trying to impart herd immuntity by giving TT immunity to few susceptibles --i am being too stupid!
i would only be able to protect those whom i am giving the dose.so thats why --it protects only the individual ,not the herd -so option 4 is wrong.

option 4 says-it does not protect the individual--infact it only protects the individual .

i hope u agree aditi.

park 16th pg 89
herd immunity i not applicable in tetanus
clinical & subclinical infections contribute 2 herd immunity in the community so 2 is the answer
i agree wit aditi

shall i write option 3 once again????

3.in the case of tetanus it does not protect the individual.

now this statement is false --herd immunity has no role in TT--any immunisation given would protect ONLY THE INDIVIDUAL -here they write -it does not protect the individual.

if i was to frame this statement correctly -i would say--IN CASE OF TETANUS IT DOES NOT PROTECT THE COMMUNITY.
