The African "brain-drain" will be one of the issues discussed at the G8 Summit in July, with the crucial roles of health services and medical professionals seen as critical to overcoming the Continent's chronic sickness and poverty crisis.

Hosting its annual representative conference this week, top of the British Medical Association (BMA)'s agenda will be the major issue of developed countries poaching African health workers to subsidise their shortages.

Attending the conference will be Dr Victor Dedjoe, the assistant general secretary of the Ghanaian Medical Association, who said the exodus of medical staff will greatly affect their ability to assist in conflicts throughout the region.
