hi guys

just saw the prelims result today. got through. congrats to others who got through as well.

am gonna start preperation for mains today. so was checking out old posts and saw that medicos generally favour:

geography
psychology
pub admin
pol science

am taking med science as one subject (the only one I know).
have to choose something else as an optional. how did u go about deciding? have studied geog. only till class 10 and others not at all.

will be starting prep for mains now only - GS, and the optional so keeping this time frame in mind which has the shortest syllabus and which is the most scoring.

Hello,
Glad to hear that U ve cleared prelims.I presume U had med science as optional.Can U please let me know how many correct answers U did in med science optional?
I did about 81 and still could nt go through.Bad luck.One attempt wasted for me.

no idea dude. didnt even bother to check coz felt that had screwed the exam and seeing the result was a pleasant surprise.

right now totally lost as to how to prepare for mains coz havent even started. was busy preparing for usmles all this while and had already given step 1.

Congrats mav..Real good to hear you got through esp coz i didnt! nor have a number of people i knew who gave it this time..so urs was one bit of good news..
1.Pub ad has the shortest portion if thats what u r looking for..on the other hand its a little dry..so take a look n if it suits u it should be good..
2.Psych is also on the shorter side and works well for medics(ask Drsumit seth!)
3.Pol Science and Geog are a little longer in length but if you can cover maps geog is scoring coz a substantial percentage of marks can come into ur kitty bcoz of maps
That is in brief what Iv heard about these 4 subjects..
My call at this point of time would be psych or pubad(coz u say ur gonna start now) but I dont know ur interests and ur liking for polsc or geog may influence ur decision..
I guess u should contact drsumit for the best guidance..

I just wondered if we can form a study group for IAS med science in Delhi.Well thats where I am staying and have Psycho as 2nd optional.
I had begun preparing for mains but the prelims result came as a shock.I dont know what I will improve next time.
See the paradox I fully prepared for prelims ,both GS and optional and thats why was confident.But failed .Mav was not at all sure but he cleared.UPSC is playing dirty games.If next year they reduce age limit,we(I mean myself)are out of the race.

Mav, can U do us all a favour by counting ur correct score in med science,and posting here.So we can get a benchmark,an idea of med science cut off mark .I know some questions were ambiguous eg Which is not used as sclerosant( all the given options are used,phenol is used in almond oil,ethanol is also used)But U can give us a tentative score.

any idea how is zoology? was checking out its syllabus and paper 2 is same as medical science. almost!!

ye mediguy, will try to tell u but the point is I dont know which are correct and which wrong coz didnt check my answers later as felt that i had done pathetically.

Srry I dnt reply..was out of action for some time..
Mediguy u seem down man..Listen I know someone whos 28 and is preparing for next year coz the general idea is thateven if the age limit is reduced it will be done in a phased manner..so please dont worry too much..Hard work pays eventually pucca..
And I am based in Mumbai..so we can definitely have a study group on Rxpg..if its ok with you..Discussing stuff helps..
No idea about zoology mav..
Has Drsumit replied to you..?bcoz I hvnt been able to get in touch..
what I wanted to ask mav was..are you doing internship or have you passed out?..and when did you give the mle?..How did you manage to study for both the mle and this..coz obviously studying for other exams helped you cover UPSC portion..
If you could answer it may help..

thanx confu.I am preparing with the same hope.But its dificult to get an idea of the cut of marks for Med science.No one is coming forth with correct score.
For mav preparing simultaneously for mle and PG definitely helped for UPSC exam.GS performance doesnt play any role.
