Is your Medical School Listed in WHO Directory?

Dear Fresh Medical Students and those who are wishing to enter into medical institutions!!!
In PAKISTAN, please be sure and aware that your medical institution and institution to be is enlisted in World Dictionary of Medical Schools (WDMS) which is published by the World Health Organization (WHO). You can go to the website, click on the country where the medical school is located and then you will know whether the school is listed or not.
Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) (for details please log on to its official website) is responsible for recognizing and affiliating medical schools and universities and send the names of the institutions to WHO, who enlists the name to WDMS.
Why it is important to know:
Your institution must be enlist in WDMS because all the Foreign Medical Examining or Licensing Authorities won’t find you eligible to take their exam, either
it is Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduate (ECFMG) which authorizes you to sit for United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE
) for USA
or its General Medical Council (GMC) for Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB
) for UK
or Medical Council of Canada
(MCC) for Canadian Licensing Exams for Canada
or Australian Medical Council (AMC) for Australia
and so on…..
Once they receive your application they will make sure by WDMS that your institution is enlisted there.
So just before you enter into medical college make sure it is affiliated !!!!!!!!!..
For e.g. VOHRA MEDICAL COLLEGE in Karachi was closed just after 3 years….it was not listed or registered by PMDC that time and many medical students without knowing it they got admission……...what happened…?? The institution was closed they were kicked out from middle of there 3rd and 4th years…
ADVICE: before giving entrance test to any medical institution go thru WDMS site or read DAILY DAWN or DAILY JUNG.
PMDC usually advertise, which institution is recognized by them during admission months June-Dec (usually)
Don’t forget to tell your moms to read the newspaper daily for you..
And for those you are in unaffiliated and unrecognized medical schools.. I pray for you!!!!
please discuss this issue with your faculty members and your colleagues.
I appreciate your feed back/suggestion/comments
GL!!!!!!!!!!!!
(for those who dun know what is GL..its GOODLUCK!!)

Alam Khan,
First of All Sorry for not replying your post. I didnt log in RXPG site for almost a month and half. Been busy in exams etc. any ways.. answer to your question. First of all, say Alhamduillah that your med school name is in PMDC. do not nee dto worry about it. Make a group of 5-6 students who know how to cmmunicate with your college faculty, go to your dean tell them that still in 2006 WDMS list your school name is not there. What your dean will do is he will write/talk to PMDC they will in turn let WDMS know that Jinnah school is recognised by us(PMDC) that the way the things work. Do nottake this thing lightly. Go with goo dinfluencial students who know how to talk/ even take parents or call parents meeting to slove this issue with med scholl admistration. The dean HAS to let PMDC work his way and you are the driving force who will let it happen. its a cycle and you have to follw it that way!
Hope you get what im trying to say. It happen to us, I graduated from Ziauddin Medical University (ZMUH) it happen in our 4th year that PMDC had revoked recognition it was mess.. so we had our student lobby and our parents we worked things out and we did it at the time of my graduation we were then listed.
it will work out for you..may the stone rolling.
Good Luck!!!

Assalamu alaikum!
Alam:
Jinnah Medical & Dental College IS listed in the IMED (International Medical Education Directory)...check on the ECFMG site, it's there...the WHO site is being upgraded...let's hope,Insha'Allah, that the name is on the new list...
Pearl:
I know exactly what you're talking about...we went through a similar mess in the early stages of JMDC...
