Chairman of a private medical college here was arrested today by the police allegedly selling management quota seats in the institution for huge amount of money.

M L Swarnakar, Chairman of Mahatma Gandhi National Medical College and Research Institute was arrested after police found a Video Compact Disc (VCD) showing management officials of the organisation seeking huge amounts of money from students for their quota of seats, official sources said.

The Chairman's brother Ram Ratan, a director of the college management committee was also arrested, they said adding police had launched an operation to nab other directors of the institute for questioning.

Swarankar, an expert in in-vitro fertilisation, is also the Chairman of Federation of Private Medical and Dental Colleges of Rajasthan .

The VCD also showed officials fixing up a Central Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Federation last month, the sources said.

The state government is now planning to arrange the CAT through Rajasthan University to fill up management quota seats in private medical and dental colleges.

Police had raided premises of various private medical and denatal coleges last week and seized several documents related to admissions of students.
