Quick Scroll Passing PLAB as well as MRCP Part 1 gets you Job!!!!!!!!!!! 09.11.05 (2 years ago) #1

It seems many PLAB 'ers think that passing just MRCP part 1 after PLAB will help them find a job easily.

If you have gone through these both exams, please leave your comments for would-be MRCP candidates who are jobless.

The question is whether MRCP part 1 is considered in short listing or not!!!!

I haven't taken the MRCP part 1.
Nor is there any correct answer for the above Q.
But I can say that
"Qualifications should support your experience. And vice versa"

If you have just completed your internship and are looking for Foundation year rotations... which are ideal for anyone not completed post graduation in their home country the MRCP or any other Royal college exams would not make much difference at all.

But if you are an MD Med. and applying for SHO jobs you should have taken the MRCP part 1 already.

Similarly a MS General Surgeon is expected to complete his MRCS (all parts) to make any sense of his 3 yrs training and experience.

The jobs where they require experienced SHO's (e.g. middle grade posts and senior clinical fellow posts), are more likely to consider Royal college exams in the shortlisting.
Also a pass in the part 1 exam would impress your consultant with whom you are doing clinical attachment with.
The interview panel is likely to use the MRCP part 1 to their benefit.

I would say that... "it's better to pass the MRCP part 1 at the earliest"... there's no harm in it... it would only help.
But if anyone takes the exam to get jobs... they are likely to be disappointed.

Hello Dr Nainagosavi!

I think you didn't check Munish's reply:

Dear nainagosavi

If you complete the MRCOG you do not need to take the PLAB . If you obtain the membership of RCOG you will be eligible for GMC registration.

It would be a good idea to get in touch with the PMETB to obtain a certificate of experience.

It's much better to have an HSMP rather than come here on a visitors visa.

It's best to get in touch with people who are here and working in O&G.

Quick Scroll Feel free to contact GMC! 01.06.06 (2 years ago) #6

Dr Nainagosavi, please feel free to contact GMC at your earliest convenience because I've heard from mates although I'm not sure that doctors just like you have chances to get jobs ( if you have completed MRCOG 2).

Just send a mail to GMC asap! Please make it short and simple!

Regards

Hi Kanna,

Actually the post was written by my husband vikas ( he is a Gynae ). I m a pediatrician. We are using the same ID. I thank you on his behalf.
He has not appeared for MRCOG Part 2 yet. He is studying for plab1. Still confused as to whether he should be appearing for PLAB 1or MRCOG 2
Thanks a lot.

PLAB is only for getting the GMC registration. If you complete all the parts of MRCOG and obtain the Membership of the RCOG then you are eligible for GMC registration.

As about jobs... they do have a shortage of post MRCOG doctors... but that doesnot mean getting jobs would be easy. It's better to directly/personally contact people working in O&G in the UK
