Instructions
For each of the patient described below, choose the single most likely management
from the above list of options. Each option may be used once, more than once or not
at all.
68. A 7 year old has right-sided earache and rhinorrhea .On examination his right
sided tympanic membrane appears pink in colour.
69. A 4 year old with right-sided earache is examined using otoscopy. This reveals
a red bulging tympanic membrane.
70. An 8-year-old boy who has been playing outside now complains of right-sided
earache. On inspection a green bead is seen protruding into his ear canal. The
walls of the canal are red.
71. A 9-year-old girl with a history of recurrent otitis media now complains of left
sided earache. On examination the right-sided tympanic membrane appears
scarred. On examination of the left ear, pus is seen throughout the ear canal.
72. An 8 year old is noted to have a discharge from the left ear. He has only mild
irritation and no significant ear ache. On examination his external canal is
inflamed but the tympanic membrane appears normal.
