1.Schlesinger's test is done to detect :
a.bile pigment
b.hemoglobinuria
c.urobilinogen
d.urobilin

the key says lugol's sol'n transforms urobilinogen to urobilin which then reacts with alcoholic zinc acetate to form greenish fluoresence so the test finally detects urobilin & hence d. is the ans.?

2.the % of bacterial chromosome usually involved in transformation is
1. 1%
2. 10 %
3. 25%
4. 50 to 100%
i have no clues regarding this ans.the key says 10 to 50 would have been an ideal ans.

3.xeroderma pigmentosa is due to deficiency of
1. dna polymerase
2. dna dependent rna polymerase
3. dna ligase
4. specific dna endonuclease
now this is a very oft repeated question but ans varies between 1,3 & 4
plz help

4.daily excretion of iron in urine is
1. nil
2. 0.01 - 0.04 mg
3. 0.06 - 0.1 mg
4. 0.1 - 0.8 mg
now deb says adult male 0.5 to 1.5 mg
satyanaran -iron is not excreted thru urine
plz help

in xerderma question answer is 4 see uv mediated damage to dna repain in page 343,2411 in harison 15th, harper 26th 337. you will under stand
on question of iron. i will go for nil.

the answer for deficiency leading to xero pig is excision endonuclease/exinuclease,since the recognition and removal of thymine dimers is primarily affected by this alone.
