its a depressive disorder
f/o depression in this patient are-
1)lack of interest
2)lack of hope-she will not b able to work again
3)life was not worth living

many may say that this is a case of PTSD,but she is the one who broke the relationship (for whatever reason)not viceversa.symptoms in PTSD will appear earlier within 6 weeks

so i will go for depression.
any1 having diferent opinion?

Adjustment disorder

it is clearly not conversion disorder

icon_eek.gif for Post traumatic stress disorder, there should be history of major
accident(death, accident etc).
This major life event is that event in which any person could feel depressive symptoms (of course not to the level of exaggeration) .PTSD follows events which could be a setback for any person (more or less). breaking up relationship is not a such major incident to lead to PTSD as most of the people do cope with this event
successfully.
such symptoms as depicted by this lady will be expressed in only few of the girls if they are put under similar circumstances.
hence PTSD is excluded.
b/w depressive disorder and adjustment disorder, presence of a clear precipitating factor, no h/o any depressive complaints before this
MINOR event does suggests adjustment disorder.
icon_lol.gif clearly this lady couldn't adjust in circumstance in which many ladies could.

COULDN'T ADJUST WITH WHAT?
SHE WAS LEADING A PERFECTLY NORMAL LIFE EARLIER AND I FEEL IF SHE HAS ADJUSTMENT DISORDER THERE MUST B SOME BACK HISTORY TOO.SHE DOESNT HAVE ANY MAJOR SETBACK IN LIFE WITH WHICH SHE CANT ADJUST.
HOW DO U EXPLAIN LACK OF HOPE AND SHE FELS SHE WONT B ABLE TO WORK?

AS SUCH U ALL KNOW A PERSON IS NOT BORN DEPRESSED.LATER IN LIFE THEY TEND TO BECOME DEPRESSED D/T A REASON OR OTHER.

SO I WILL GO FOR DEPRESSION.
THIS WAS ASKED IN AIIMS LAST YEAR AND DIFERENT GUIDES DIFER IN THEIR OPINION

BUT I HAVE CONSULTED BOTH BHATIA AND AHUJA AND HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION ITS A DEPRESSSIVE DISORDER
LATERON IN ASHISH AND AMIT AIIMS GUIDE THERE WAS AN ERRATA REGARING THIS QUESTION.FIRST THEY ANSWERED IYT ADJUSTMENT AND NOW THEY HAVE CHANGED IT TO DEPRESSIVE DIS.

REGARDING AGE OF ONSET FOR DEPRESSION I HAVE NO IDEA BUT NOW A DAYZ MANY ADOLESCENTS TOO SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION ---THANX TO EXAM BURDEN OF THIS SOCIETY.
I WILL CHECK IT OUT AND LET U KNOW DR. NITIN
