Hi everyone,
Until today I had a hope of getting a job. But, that hope is shattered because the rules have changed so that overseas doctors find it more and more difficult to find themselves a job. I've done 3 months of clinical attachment and am currently doing an honorary SHO post. I could manage to get registered with the GMC but do not have the visa to stay and apply for jobs. As you all probably know that u need a dean's approval for getting your PFT done for the time as well now, all the deans have been sent a memo from the home office not to issue any PFT for honorary SHO posts.(memo sent on 8 sept). So, now even with short term locums and honorary SHO posts, one cannot get his PFT. All u need is a substantive training post to get ur PFT done. This is the latest and I know people who had got their PFT's done until 3 weeks ago, but now they simply refusing to give any PFT visa.
So, would be plabbers, if u wanna come, come prepared for a very expensive holiday here and try your luck.

Just one question: why are you willing to discourage people in your first post?

hi friends,
UK is a lost case. After 2 months of attachment, I got a locum of 28 days in London but the Deanary refused to give me PFT letter.
That's right on 8th September they had sent the memo and from 12 th September they had a written decision to stop giving PFT recommendation. What to do man?am really depressed. The Home Office will never grant you PFT without it.What to do?
I see no hope in future.

I don't understand why they aren't giving us PFT.
Does it mean they don't have any vacancy.
So, Doctors from overseas should no more be interested to PLAB
exam.

Dear postplab
I agree that the dean may not give a letter for those in honorary posts, but atleast you have the registration and can put down the experience on the CV.
I don't think that the Home Office has sent any memo to anyone.
To my knowledge the home office wants the Deans to decide whether the applicants should be issued a PFT or not.
In fact I know that the Eastern deanery has issued a memo to all trusts to not give a honorary post!
I know many people have been given the PFT on short term locums ... provided they had the deans letter.
I wish you luck and hope you get a substantive post soon.

Dear drsanku2001
You have just done 2 months of attachment and are already depressed!
Anyway..
I don't accept your thing about the 'memo' sent by the Home office to the Deans.
Do you have anything to support your statement.
I agree that the London deanery has been a little harsh on locums... but they do issue letters for short term PFT's for the duration of the locum. So I believe that you may be able to get a letter recomending a PFT for 28 days!
Do try again and let us know. All the best.
