shortest cranial nerve is olfactory, it starts from nasal mucous membrane and ends at olfactory bulb.

The longest intracranial course is that of trochlear nerve, abducens has longest subarachnoid course (that is why it is commonly affected in raised ICT - lateral rectus palsy is one of the false localising signs of raised ICT)
