subcentres caters to a population of 5,000!
and BR is 25!
so total no of birth is 125!! ( ie 25 /1000 of population * 5000)
now as it is a single dose vaccine multiply with 2(ie wastage factor)
so it come= 250!!
well this is what i know!
pls correct me if i am doing any mistake in it!!

oh! actually our buks doesnt mention this but u can ask ur professors!!
it is regarding whether the vaccine in question is to be given in single dose(like BCG, measles) or in multiple doses(like DPT,OPV)!!!!
usually alongwith the question they do provide us the factor!!
Now, for single dose (as vaccine wud be wasted more) it is 2
and for multiple it is taken as 1.44 sometimes!!!
there is a beautiful question of calculation of no of doses of DPT!!
like in the above question instead of BCG if DPT is to considered then what will be the no of doses????try!
if anyone has book ref for this pls tell!
i have written is what was taught to me!!

Never knew about the wastage factor. I'll ask about that with somebody in the Community Medicine Dept.

To calculate the no. of doses requd. we need to first estimate the no. of beneficiaries which we estimate from the CBR and IMR if given (subtract the no. of infant deaths from the total births).
We also need to include wastage factor to reach a final figure of the requd. doses. typically for BCG wastage is taken to be 50%, i.e. half of the available doses will be wasted. So if the no. of beneficiaries is 10 you will need 20 doses of BCG (wastage multiplication factor = 2). Thus we multiply the wastage factor with the no. of estimated beneficiaries and the no. of doses needed.
The wastage factor for different vaccines are
BCG and Measles - 2
DPT and OPV - 1.33
Thus e.g.,
no. of DPT needed in a subcenter/PHC = no. of beneficiaries x 1.33 x 4(total doses needed per child)
You can get more info. from the CSSM modules prepared by GoI (PSM
PGs can help)... if you have the time!

first calculate the total no. of births that year for that population.
then subtract the mortalities (by imr)
then multiply it with no. of doses one child needs for that vaccine
and lastly multiply it with the wastage factor of that vaccine.and get the answer.
vaccine are liable to be destroyed becoz they need special environment and are get wasted when they reach the centre or when they are faultly stored.so, we have to multiply the wastage factor,so that the supply should match even after the wastage.this is wastage factor.
polio and measles vaccine require freezer otherwise they will be of no use.
calculation is easy unless u miss a step.
