gastric lavge is useful upto 24 hrs in one of the foll poisoning:

a) opium

b) barbiturates

c) salicylates

d) organophosphorus?

plz xplain!!

I think it is salicylates because they may form tablet bezoars and hence may not be absorbed even for 24 hours!

basically, for long acting barbiturates, which 've elimination half life >40 hrs, gastric lavage can be given lately too.. i dont know upto 24 hrs.. or not...bt can given in late cases..

its opiates - esp morphine.
reference - KDT pg 422
Gastric lavage should be done with KMnO4 to remove unabsorbed drug. Lavage is indicated even when morphine is injected, being a basic drug it is partitioned into the acidic gaastric juices...
